    1. FERMANAGH-GOLD Irish Catholic parish and church boundaries have not been stable since the early 1800s
    2. Dave H. via
    3. http://www.dennisahogan.com/newsletter/blog/irish-genealogy-newsletter-boundary-changes In Ireland, the boundaries of counties and civil parishes have been relatively stable. However, boundaries were somewhat invisible to the Irish. So they may live in one county and go to church or “do business” in a convenient market town in the next county. Church records and even civil records may not be recorded in a family’s home county if they lived near a boundary. Irish Catholic parish and church boundaries have not been stable since the early 1800s. As Catholics were allowed to worship publically, many more churches were needed. Several sources indicate Catholic boundaries, but they usually represent just a one-time snapshot which may not be relevant to the timeframe that you are researching. An Irish Catholic Directory may help. These directories list dioceses, parishes, churches, and priests including historic & current parish names. Published annually since 1835, several past directories can be found by searching "Irish Catholic Directory" on Google Books <http://books.google.com/>. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

    3. As February 1859 is 9 months prior to November 1859, I’d search for the obstetrician’s records! :-} While searching for the death of my great great grandfather William Jones, I did come across one William Jones who according to the Guernsey burial records, died three after he was buried. I imagine he obviously couldn’t hold his breath any longer. It just shows that typos occurred before the invention of the typewriter! However, back to your baptism, I would surmise that the child was born November 1858 and baptised February 1859. Do you have access to the whole register, or just the one entry? An examination of the rest of the register should allow you to gain a better perspective on the dates in the particular entry. 3. Dave, here is the original entry in the Cumberland register. The dates of birth are chronological, as are the dates of the baptisms. It looks like a recording error by the Rev, as the 1858 date is clearly out of place. http://bowergenealogy.ca/resources/methodist/1/770.jpg Wendy On Tue, Apr 12, 2016 at 5:15 PM, wendy stevenson <wendym[email protected]> wrote: > In those days, in rural communities, there weren't always local churches > or ministers. 3. Yes someone sent me a photocopy of the Registry page... obviously entered one by one, so others in date sequence but with this inserted in 1860's!! So no logic to it. I surmise the same ( the child was born November 1858 and baptised February 1859) but have 2 trees on Ancestry... each with different dates, just getting no hints!! 2. Given that the church would be more interested in recording the baptism and the record would be penned shortly after the event, I would conclude that the registrar just forgot to calculate the birth year correctly. So probably born in 1858. I know myself that the first few days into a new year I tend to find myself using the previous year. It can take a while to train the brain to use the correct year. But by February one would think the year would be pretty well embedded to not make that mistake! Are there any other clues, such as the sequence of events in the register? 3. Thank you so much, Dave, I just managed to look through all my KEOWN data and you beat me to it :))) These you named are children, grandchildren etc of Daniel born and died same parish, all RC. Beautiful large gravestone, Celtic cross Daniel Keown Cornahilta, died 23rd May 1897 aged 73 years His wife, Anne, died 29th December 1916 ( no age at death) John Keown of Cornahilta, died 15th July 1933 aged 69 years Wife Mary, died 22 Oct 1956 aged 84 years Daughter Margaret, died 23rd August 1963 aged 63 years Son Dan died 3rd December 1973 aged 79 years John shown above was the younger brother of Dean Keown of St Patrick's Purgatory. Daniel's sister or aunt (not yet certain but believe the latter) was Mary Keown who married James Snow of Tully, these are my g-g-grandparents. The Killy Beg Keown/Dolan are part of the Keowns of Cornahilta and Dolans of Meenagleragh. Again my relations. The Duffys of the same parish are related to both Dolans and Keowns from all the Townlands named. Many of the Keowns still living in the area are direct descendants of the above - and it is likely that the elder Daniel was a son of Lawrence Keown Snr shown still living in Cornahilta at the time of GV's, although he was an old man at the time.
