According to Statistics Canada, starting May 2, 2016, they will send census letters and packages to all Canadian households. Not sure when it will available though. Brenda in Ontario.
Well the Govt that was considering it has gone! We had elections a month ago.... still no Govt appointed! So it all starts afresh. How long will this new lot last as no one has a majority? Not long.... then another election, so it all starts afresh! Will it even be done by 2016?? Some Minister needs to make decision to fund it1 I don't think the 1926 Census exists for NI. DH The Dáil considered releasing after 70years as these 1926 Census returns would be gold dust to genealogists, but that was several years ago and I’ve heard nothing since. Probably got delayed/moth balled due to funding cuts. >From a local view point there seems to have been a great deal of movement at the time with Protestant families moving North and RC moving South, but that would only be revealed by looking at the census. Id love to get access to it! But then most of us on the list would! Clive --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus
No, I think the NI one was delayed too from what I understand. From talking to people it was quite a violent affair, with the police and army being used!! I think they were both done at the same time to prevent people from crossing the border to avoid it. The problem is the 100year rule which means they wont publish census returns until 100year after the date of the census. Once they are released, it takes a considerable time to transcript them. If that’s the case we wont be allowed access to the 1926 returns until 2026. Because the 1911 returns where stored in Dublin they are under Irish control and the 100year rule was temporary suspended to allow early release of the records. Our previous census took place on the night of Sunday April 10, 2011. Yes the Census for Republic was 1926... the N.I one was destroyed I believe! The last census in Fermanagh was on Sunday 27 March 2011, so next one will be 2021. I believe that the census in RoI was changed to get an idea of the state of play following the partition and has continued on from that every 10 years, I think its started again in 1926 (please don’t quote me on that, its purely from an unreliable memory) I know there was talk in the Dáil about releasing the census earlier, as a genealogy resource, but I don’t think anything was agreed. G’day Dave Some good sites for NZ for which you don’t need to wait for a free weekend on Ancestry are: Family Search - excellent for Probate Records as well as passenger lists < https://familysearch.org/search/collection/location/1927083?region=New+Zealand > Registrar-General < https://bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/ > “Papers Past” – digitised newspapers (National library) < http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast > Dictionary of Biography < http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/biographies > The links page of the Western Australian Genealogical Society has about 70 listings < http://membership.wags.org.au/membership-mainmenu-44/genealogy-links > By the way, does your local library have an Ancestry subscription? Thanks David, No the Library doesn't have Ancestry sub at moment, plus is very restricted to the county one is in! Red tape, as each is funded county by county and even at that very little online. Most of my stuff comes via LDS, Paperspast etc etc plus old Ancestry sub, so the freebie is just to put some sources to them via trees on Ancestry (using the hints for them), Cemetery records 1800-2007, etc etc Even to get an InterLibrary book from another county is almost impossible as one can't see what another County has and even within the County some branches have some great books local to them, so if I need church Centenary booklets around Manorhamilton I have to go to branches there, same with Ballinamore/Mohill/Carrick on Shannon/Drumshanbo or Kinlough and possibly even Sligo due to its location. Unbelievably Primitive!! Although work is afoot to allow one access to each County's Library online stuff this summer but some have very little online. WiFi is primitive and although I've an OK signal the houses beside me don't as I'm up on a hill and only have WiFi for just over a year. Yes I'd tend to believe 59 should be 58 so should be either 2 or 3 on next Census, there are no matching Census records. Forgetting about the errors, the Halls could have been travelling through or living miles away, so would a Birth record reveal anything or what else can I look for?? Dave Re: FERMANAGH-GOLD Just west of Fermanagh /Date:/ Tue, 12 Apr 2016 17:28:39 -0400 /References:/ <[email protected]><[email protected]><[email protected]><[email protected]om> /In-Reply-To:/ <[email protected]om> Dave, here is the original entry in the Cumberland register. The dates of birth are chronological, as are the dates of the baptisms. It looks like a recording error by the Rev, as the 1858 date is clearly out of place. http://bowergenealogy.ca/resources/methodist/1/770.jpg Wendy --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus
