    3. Earlier this year the bridge in Tadcaster Yorkshire, England, collapsed due to heavy rain and flooding. My late Mother-in-law's Gfather was born there. In the 1850/60s the Church used to be flooded when the river Tad overflowed. It was decided to dismantle the church stone by stone and rebuild it 25 yards back from the river Tad on higher ground in 1862. The people funded this move by having pottery items (Cream ware) made with a picture of the old church on each, cup, mug, jug etc. GGPa George Hardcastle, bought a mug, a Cup for his wife and two small child's cups for his two daughters. George worked at the local Brewery looking after the horses used in the carts delivering the produce. He and Hannah, his wife celebrated his golden wedding when he was 74. Their photograph appeared in the local paper along with a short article on his life ending with "Mr Hardcastle is still employed by John Smith's brewery as a green-keeper" Mum said that he, like the horses he had looked after for so many years, had been put out to grass! I have those items in my china cabinet and the newspaper cutting.

I am taking a watch and lanyard chain which was presented to my Gt Aunt Isa Clarke on her retirement in May 1914. In just over a month that watch will be 102 years old and is still working. After Isa's death my Grandmother Clarke wore it daily and on many occasions I was allowed to wind it for her. It was only given 7 winds each night. When I took it from my "Treasure Chest last night, the memories came flooding back. I could see my Grandmother smiling at me. So I wound the watch 7 times and set it to time and it is still going this morning. What a great treasure to have!
