Looking for McALLISTER. My GGGfather John McAllister died in 1903 in Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim. He was a native of County Fermanagh according to the 1901 Census. Griffith's Valuation had a single entry in Fermanagh, ca. 1862, for a John M'Alister in Derryhawlagh, Killesher, who I think could be my GGGGfather, but I haven't been able to establish a definite connection between the two Johns. Hi Bruce, I don't really understand the DNA, but my brother had his DNA tested through FTDNA and the few matches he's had are J-M172 or J-M67. Our name is Armstrong, another border clan, and the earliest ancestor I've found to date is a Maxwell Armstrong, died 1820 in Co. Fermanagh, aged 46. Two of 3 matches at "3" are Armstrong, the other is Foster, and there are several Foster or Forresters. My brother's DNA is unlike most other Armstrongs. Present! My father left Lisburn in Northern Ireland with his family to New Zealand in 1952. His father (William Theodore Hammond WADSWORTH) was born in Newtownbutler, Fermanagh in 1902. I have several Wadsworths around the Newtownbutler area to early in the 1800s. The census and Griffiths Valuations also have Wadsworth around the Enniskillen area, and while I’m sure they’re related I’m yet to find the link. I haven’t been able to get much further back than Griffiths data. All seem to be Methodist / Church of Ireland people. My grandfathers wifes people are from the Lisburn area (MEGARRY, McKINSTRY, CONNOR, SMYTH, HAMMOND) so a bit out of the area of concern. My yDNA is G-M201 / L497 with a terminal haplogroup of G-Z40538 (this seems to narrow down to a common group of males around the Halifax area of West Yorkshire) and before that to Scandinavia around 1000 years ago. As the earliest noted record of a Wadsworth in Fermanagh is the Muster Rolls of the early 1600s (Abraham WADSWORTH), I’m assuming Plantation. Regards, Nigel Wadsworth Rockhampton, Australia.
