    1. FERMANAGH-GOLDRoll Call
    2. Rob Dean
    3. Answering the call. Researching my line of DANE/DEAN/DEANE Protestant ancestors in Fermanagh. Specifically now looking for any firm info on some particular spouses: Barbara ARMSTRONG, married circa 1803 to John Dane of Cosbystown. Elizabeth LAIRD, married circa 1823 to Mathew Dane and emigrated to Canada in 1839. Hannah LOCKHART, married circa 1770 to Richard Dane of Cosbystown. Catherine LIPSETT, married circa 1730-45? to Paul Dane, son of Christopher Dane of Killyhevlin and Mary Hamilton of Monea. If you think any of these wonderful women are part of your family and you have any info linking them to the Dane clan, I'd sure be pleased to hear from you. Also, belated thanks to those of you that gave me some thoughts on the location of Rosslane/Roslean in Inishmacsaint parish. Still hoping to hear from someone researching ARMSTRONG or CROOK families, also recorded as living in that area. Cheers and thanks, Rob Dean

    1. FERMANAGH-GOLDRoll Call: Noble, Walker, Creighton
    2. BECK
    3. Hello, I am a rather quiet subscriber to Fermanagh-Gold. The ancestors I would love to track further back are Thomas Walker and his wife Isabella Noble. They were Protestants who immigrated from Fermanagh to Quebec in 1845 with their young son, John "Jack" Walker b. 1843. They settled in New Brunswick. Isabella was widowed around 1855. The family story is he was killed by a falling tree. Also, there is a story that he was a Protestant Minister. We have nothing to prove that.  Isabella's parents were Charles Noble and Jane Creighton of Derry Honey, Cleenish, Fermanagh. I do not have the details on John Walker's parents.  We do not have a Y-DNA test for the Walker family as we are descended from a daughter. Hope someone has advice. I enjoy the list and the wonderful conviviality of the group.  Catherine from Houston, Texas

    2. Anne Maguire
    3. Anne Maguire reporting in! I have recently been contacted by the partner of a descendant of Robert Cornelius Maguire and Rosannah McManus here in Australia. They employed the services of a genealogical researcher in Ireland, and report that there are no relatives or descendants of this branch of the Maguire family left in Fermanagh. This is disappointing, but I will still try and visit the area next time I am in Ireland. Cheers Anne

    3. Viola, Bruce and I have connected off list. Kate - I wish I could say if there was any connection between our Armstrongs, but I know little about mine. Family story passed down is that Maxwell Armstrong's father was "Sweeper" John Armstrong (perhaps a sapper in the army) and Elizabeth Maxwell Buchanan. I have never been able to find a reliable source for this. In the townland of Lisrace, Maxwell Armstrong appears in 1796 as a Flax Grower, and a son is born there in 1796. According to a book I found online, Armstrongs from that townland were very involved in Methodism, and there was a John Armstrong, father of Robert and William who moved to Cavan, then in 1795 or 1796 to Drogheda, Co. Louth. It is possible these were Maxwell's brothers, but I have not found evidence. My ancestor, Maxwell's son Johnston, emigrated to Canada by 1837, and seems to have been followed by all his siblings by 1845 or so. Johnston had brothers Robert, Thomas and Christopher, possibly William, but I've not seen an Andrew, although that is a good Armstrong name !
