Probably not born in IFermanagh [Scotland per 1871 Ontario Canada census] but raised in Fermanagh. Mother's maiden name was [Margaret] Carleton. Probe in Fermanagh could find no John Gibson, yet we own a letter telling of days playing at Maguire's Bridge, etc. His father George was in British army stationed Buckingham Palace. Had two sisters, one Maria. John's birth 1813. He joined Irish Fusiliers at age 16 and after discharge traveled to Ontario Canada and then on to British Columbia for remainder of life. John and sisters were baptized in a church in Fermanagh. Writing to churches in area has brought no answers. I am "housesitting" so do not have dates with me.
