Hello Listers, While we are on the subject of townlands, perhaps someone on the list could enlighten me regarding the above townland... It looks like CARNBOY, Fermanagh in 1821 only has six households and I was wondering what acreage it included. I was confused to know that there was a CARNBOY in Donegal mentioned in Griffiths valuation and no mention of CARNBOY in Fermanagh. Perhaps by then, there were no householders there. . Perhaps CARRANBOY/CARRENBOY is the original spelling as it appears early:- 1767 Freeholders of Fermanagh uses CARRANBOY 1812 - 1836 Parish records use CARRENBOY / CARRINBOY and later in: 1821 census CARNBOY, 1835 Tythe Report it is CARNBOY. In 1841 my immigrant ancestor CATHERINE MCKNIGHT gave 'IRVINGSTOWN ' as place of residence on shipping records which probably was due to it being the closest town or perhaps the family no longer lived at CARNBOY. I am led to believe that her father GEORGE died at an advanced age on the family farm though. Would there be someone on the list with local knowledge who could shed some light on this townland. Thank you for your help. Regards, Helen
