Dear listers: On the 1901 census for Fermanagh, my ancestors listed one or two children who had already emigrated. Does anyone know what could have been the reason for this? Would it have had to do with taxation, perhaps? Mary McAuliffe Nigro

Hi Mary, I'd suspect that they emigrated then from Ireland for the same reason that I did so from England about 70 years later. Just one word. Opportunity!! [Of course, there's another question.
