I think you could do much better by tracing the military man. He would have been in the British Army and they kept meticulous records for every post he was at , when he was there, family size, ect.,. Build up a chronological road map of his travels and the children will fall into places to look for records. Officially , Catholic Church record start about 1830-1835. School records predate some church records.. Land, estate and Manor records predate everything since 1620.
