    1. Re: [FERMANAGH] Marriage Witnesses
    2. Jo Ann, Thank you for your best wishes and I felt so proud seeing my twin son meet his bride at the altar in Woburn Abbey. However I started all this genealogy bit because my children have a fairly priveliged life and I would want them to know how different it was for their ancesters. My granddaughter aged 1 yr. is called Lucia but my son, her uncle calls her 'GUCCIA' because of her mother's penchant for products from that particular designer. My ancesters would turn in their graves at the thought of a yr. old little girl wearing 'gucci' jeans and shoes. Anyhow back to serious matters. Maguires. what a lovely lot they are....but perhaps my great grandmother Catherine Maguire bequeathed me something. I now have quite a bit on this name and 'god help us all in trying to differentiate who belongs to who' but let me know what you are looking for and as much information as you can as I do have quite a few records in the Fermanagh area. They are a rum lot and hard to pin down but I have found that cemetery records tend to bring us back to basics and are fairly reliable. Maureen

    3. Hello, Not sure if you're the woman asking about husbands signing the marriage certificate as witnesses, but if so could it be because the maid of honor and best man were not of legal age (21 years old)? In all your Maguire research do you by any chance have a Charlie (Charles) married to an Ellen Nora Cassidy in 1852 in Fermanagh? I have no idea of where in the county which makes it really hopeless where to look. Charlie was a 'boiler maker' and worked on the Merrimac after the family emigrated to the US. Your granddaughter sounds like a wonderful child, Gucci jeans and all! I'm sure you enjoy her very much. Thank you for your time and information. Gigi (great grandma) Pat
