Hi I am desperately trying to find any Emery cousins whose ancestors once lived at Edenclough(Ededclaw)/Croneen, Drumsawna/Croneen and Pettigo. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. SANDRA on AUSTRALIA's ANZAC Day
Valerie, I have emailed you off list with the link to what may be your family that I found on the LDS website. The 1880 US census is available free there. At the bottom of the listing for Margaret there is a small icon to ancestry, click on it and you can view the listing at the bottom of the page. It continues on the next page with Paterick's siblings. I searched on Margaret Burns 5 years old and came up with the head of the household as: Paterick Burnes (their spelling) 46 bricklayer Mary 17 Lizzie 15 Eddie 13 John 10 Paterick 8 Maggie 5 Elizabeth 75 widowed listed as "daughter" but probably his mother Edward Burns 32 brother Bricklayer Jane Burns sister 40 Patrick is listed as married but there is no listing for Catherine. If she was ill or in the hospital she would be listed there and not in the household on that day. Given that all the children were born in New York, it could be that they were married there and given Mary's age would probably have been before, or around, 1862-3. I'm so glad to have discovered this list as I recently discovered that my 4X GR grandfather William TOUCHBURN [spelling varies constantly!] was born in Enniskillen abt 1775 and married abt 1818 to Mary DUFFY, d/o Patrick DUFFY & Ann MAXWELL. The family were in the Manchester area of Lancashire by abt 1830 because that's when my 3X GR grandfather, William TICHBORNE was born. By 1851 Census, William Jr was in Paisley Abbey, Renfrewshire Scotland where he was working as an apprentice shoemaker and boarding with a family. He married there the following year to Mary HAMILTON and by 1868 settled permanently in Bolton, Lancashire, England where he died in 1890. William TOUCBURN [1775] died in Enniskillen, Fermanagh on Aug 19 1836. His widow Mary died Jan 16 1867 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. Their 2nd child, Esther, was born abt 1834 in Enniskillen before her father died. Are there any existing records covering the period of 1775 for Births/Baptisms? 1818ish for marriages? 1836 for deaths and/or burials? I know from a son of William & Mary that at one time their TOUCHBURNs lived on Viscount Lord Cole's estate in Enniskillen and wonder if there are any records existing for that place as I am totally unfamiliar with Irish records. Many thanks for any help and/or suggestions! Dallas Canada --------------------------------- Be smarter than spam. See how smart SpamGuard is at giving junk email the boot with the All-new Yahoo! He challenged for the then renamed America's Cup in 1885 and 1886, and remained in the USA designing steam yachrts for millionaires. His former home in New York is a tourist attraction. Earlier this month (April 2007) there was a ceremony unveiling the keels of Amrica's Cup challenging yachts for the 32nd competition. This ceremony has its roots in Webb's unveiling of his keel in 1885. Gartside (Jack) Tipping, of Rossferry, near today's Share Centre, Lisnaskea. He designed the world's first succesful fin-keel type racing yacht, built by Carles McCabe in Enniskillen and later fitted with a fin keel to win a regatta on Dublin Bay in 1887. He also designed 'Tipping Plates' that wer fitted to the whels of lifeboat carriages for launching over mud. Fitted to big guns in WW1 these were the ancestor of the tank track, widely used in military and construction vehicles. Mary Mulvihill's (sp?) book Ingeneous Ireland has much mention of Irish inventors and scientists, set out by county. Fermanagh's include the Gamble who invented the firstdetergent soap powders used in domestic washing machines. I cannot find my copy, but rememer that there are others of Fermanagh interest. Dear All, I am looking for as many famous people with Fermanagh connections as possible - writers, explorers, politicians etc. in any country. These are just some I have at the moment. John White who was the first Irishman (a native of County Fermanagh) to live in Australia the principal surgeon of the First Fleet, and the chief medical officer the Surgeon-General and first person to fight a duel in Australia; Henry Francis Lyle (author of “Abide With me” amid many other favourite hymns educated at Portora as was Oscar Wilde and Samuel Beckett; Neal Armstrong, astronaught with ancestral links to Lisnaskea; “Briney” Stewart of the 11th Inniskillings who served in WW1 who during the 1914-1918 war achieved great fame as the biggest man in the British Army; Dr. Willis had founded the Tokyo University Hospital as well as the Kagoshima University Hospital - pioneer of western medicine in Japan, a native of Florencecourt; John Caldwell Bloomfield founder of Belleek Pottery, Michael Barrett from near Kesh who was the last person to be publicly hanged in Britain; Michael Slevin who won a VC in the Indian Mutiny; Banjo Patterson's ancestors who came from near Pettigo (Waltzing Matilda etc.) All help appreciated, Regards, John Cunningham.
I had the good luck combing through the grifths tax records done in 1860's. if u know other brothers name their is the Irish naming code. I used to know it but I forget now .it goes like first boy is named after the grand father and the second after the mothers and then the third one after the father. That way u can narrow down the name of family left behind. The Mormon church copied all the records from Ireland. they have centers all over the world where u can go and order the microfiche. good luck dot sexton ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Somewhere great to stay in Fermanagh near to Monaghan Hello Listers, its the time of year when people are planning their holidays and trips away and maybe you will be looking to visit the great county of Fermanagh to do some of your research and visit the townlands where your ancestors came from, I did this last year and the feeling I got when I stood at the derelict farmhouse of my gg grandfather is unexplainable! Anyway I wrote this same post last year and had a great response, five people off this message board visited the B&B and all got back to me to say it was superb. So, if you are looking for a great, inexpensive, excellent accommodations to stay in at Roslea, Fermanagh (1 mile from the Monaghan border), please email me. We had a great time and I will be going back myself in September, the owners are the most friendliest couple you could care to meet, the food and lodgings were superb, the landlady even made enquiries about my family name before I arrived and had people for me to meet and booked my a meeting at the heritage centre it was superb with a capital S, more like staying with your family than staying in a b&b !! prices are Bed and Breakfast each night Adult £20.00 and Child £10.00 Weekend Break 2Nights B&B and One Evening Meal £50.00 Midweek Break 3 Nights B&B and Two evening Meals £80.00 Week Break 7 Nights B&B £130.00 Evening Meal £13. 50 If anyone is interested, please email me at ssr@turner-bianca.co.uk I will give you her email address and phone number Thanks Sean ________________________________________________________________________ This e-mail has been scanned for all viruses by Star. Does anyone have advise or information on researching Catholic church records for these townlands which are listed in the birth registration for the District of Roslea in the Union of Clones in the Counties of Fermanagh & Monaghan ? I have a copy of the handwritten birth register and the entry lists: Date and Place of Birth: 4 February 1864 Name: Ellen Name & Dwelling place of father: James LOUGH Stranaria [Strananerriagh] Name & Maiden surname of mother: Bridget LOUGH formerly GLENN Signature & Residence of Informant: x the mark of Bridget Lough, mother, Nackaraven [could this be Crockarevan ?] when registered: 4 May 1864 Interesting how the registration is exactly 3 months after the birth date - perhaps Ellen was really born and baptized before 4 February 1864. I have looked at the Catholic Church register of Roslea and the LOUGH and GLENN names are not listed. James b ca 1839 and Bridget b ca 1840 married 8 Jan 1858 listed in the register of the Clones Catholic Church in Co Monaghan and the baptism of their son James is also listed 13 Apr 1860. I am searching for other Catholic church records that are in the vicinity of these townlands because perhaps the family had to migrate around the counties of Fermanagh & Monaghan before the went to England in 1865, and in 1869-1872 and then on to Buffalo, New York, USA. Bridget GLENN is the daughter of Owen GLENN and Mary BOYLE. Her brother Owen Glenn born circa 1835 immigrated to US before 1856 Her sister Elizabeth Glenn born circa 1839 immigrated to US before 1859 James LOUGH's mother may be Ellen or Helen maybe RYDER, his father's name is unknown.
Hello, Do you have any information regarding Bernard Munday or (Mundy) or his family. He was born around 1791 in Fermanagh county and he came to Canada when he was around sixteen. He was well educated. On may 12, 1823 he married Ellen Smith in Quebec. His father was Peter Munday or Mundy ??? and his mother was Ann McGuire. I would like to visit Ireland and find out if I still have relatives living there. Thank you so much for helping me and please excuse my frenglish !!!! Suzanne
In your post of 14 MAR you mentioned that: "......Lakefield House, Parkview House & Sherry's Bridge illustrate a townland (Lismacsheela) of great historic Family interest. " Do you have further information about what this means. My family -- the JACKSONS --- lived at Lismacsheela for many years. What is the "great historic family interest" you refer to? I have visited Lismacsheela and talked to the current resident, I have not been able to find the origins of my JACKSON family prior to their arrival at Lismacsheela. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone might provide on this matter. Jack Burchenal burchenal2@aol.com ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone.
