Hi, I'm new to this list; have been researching family in the Liverpool and Glasgow areas and both have taken me back to N. Ireland so would welcome some help and advice! The first family starts with Christopher James Tierney who, I believe, was born in Lisna'key @ 1845. I have traced two sisters, Mary and Catherine. One of them married a publican in Birkenhead and Chris was here for their wedding which may be why he ended up in Liverpool? His birth registration gives him as a 'master hairdresser' although I'm not quite sure what that means? Would like to know if this means something to anyone or if you can offer me some guidance on how to start researching from the wilds of Suffolk. Many thanks Alison _________________________________________________________________ Try Live.com: where your online world comes together - with news, sports, weather, and much more. http://www.live.com/getstarted

Archibald Allingham married the woman, She must have been a Lady as Her last name was Flanagan. This took place back in 1838, the time frame where I am missing some ancestors. The Allingham name is notable in the Bundoran and Ballyshannon area of southern Donegal which was originally part of county Fermanagh, parish of Inishmacsaint., now named Magh Ene. Original listing posted by cromer_stephen@hotmail.com Bud Flanagan, in Arizona
Hi Listers 'Steel Bonnets', and other sources, tell of King James I and his exile of the Armstrong and Graham Border Reivers to Ireland. While research has shown the Grahams were exiled in Roscommon, Southern Ireland, I cannot find out anything about the Armstrongs. Descendants of both married into my Emery Family in Co Fermanagh from about 1800 on, but I'd like to know where the Armstrongs lived before that. Anyone have any ideas? SANDRA from AUSTRALIA
Hi Sandra, My Armstrong Branch of the family were in Leitrim (next to Rosscommon). Some of my branch moved from there to Brookborough, Co. Fermanagh. There are many Armstrongs in Leitrim (in the Manorhamilton area) so you might look there. Leitrim has a very good web site regarding accessing records. Please disregard the previous message. There has been some erroneous information circulating for the past 8 years on our Robert Johnston, b. 1808 in Ireland. It all started with an unrelated Johnston in northern Ontario making a "leap of faith" taking our Johnston family in Prescott Co. and mingling it with their Johnston family in Brampton. We both had an Archibald b. 1815 and a Robert; however, our Robert was b. 1808 and died in Prescott Co., and theirs turned out to be b. 1810 and died in Brampton. It took me 8 months of intensive work to find the error, but the damage had been done. Others picked up on it via various posts, etc.. One elusive source kept the error alive and gave it a life of its own, much to my chagrin. This morning I finally heard from that source and hope to have her correct the errors. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused anyone. Needless to say I'm crestfallen, but I may have halted the propagation of the error, finally. Good hunting, Cliff. Greetings from Sunny Texas, Sometimes complete strangers can be a real blessing. Last night a lady in Australia brought to my attention a posting about a Robert Johnston who appeared to be from our family. He is! Today I found out that the posting had been made by another stranger (to me) who was the daughter of a friend of an elderly Johnston who was curious about his family. He had the following information written down by his grandfather: "Robert Johnston, b. 1767, d. 1 Dec 1849, married Mary Porter Brown. Two of their sons were Robert "Red Robin" Johnston, b. 1808 in Ireland, and Archibald Johnston, b. 1815 in Ireland." >From our oral family history we have that Robert, b. 1767, was born in Scotland and moved to Ireland where he married, raised a family and died. Robert "Red Robin" and Archibald moved to Upper Canada ca. 1832. One or more siblings died on the journey over. A married sister may have remained in Ireland. If anyone has any information on Robert Johnston '67 and Mary Porter Brown I would appreciate very much hearing from you. Cliff.
