Michael and List Please accept my apologies for my first message. At 1:30 am with one eye on the computer and the other on the FA Cup i forgot to put my name to my first message. Once again, although the message was intended for someone else and another purpose, thank you Michael for the information about Whitehill. I had found a couple of White Hills but could not find this one which I suspect is the one I have been looking for. Hi All, Just to sow more confusion - there is a Donegal in the Parish of Clonmel in Co., Cork, one in Donegal Parish, Donegal, one in Tipperary in Knockgraffon Parish, Donegall (with two lls) in Fermanagh in the Parish of Devenish, and Donegall Middle, Donegall West and Donegal East in the Parish of Creagh in the Skibbereen Poor Law Union. Regards, JC
A thank you to all who replied - a nice one for a pub quiz. JC
Michael I have to thank you very much. Without trying you solved a problem I have been trying to solve for over two years. One set of my wife's ancestors )James McCusker and Jane Curran) were married in Whitehill, Co. Fermanagh (according to Jane's death certificate. Other evidence suggested this townland was somewhere around Enniskillen. However, we had never been able to actually locate the townland. In answering another query, you appear to have also sovled this problem for us. One question, do you happen to know which parish this Whitehill is in, or anything else about this townland? For other Curran researchers - Jane had at least 2 sisters - Elizabeth who married Henry Blakely and Catherine who married Samuel Masterson. All 2 sisters appear to have been married in Ireland 1850s or earlier before emigrating to Australia. Their parents were Henry and Mary Curran (nee McCaffery or McCafferty). There were probably other siblings, including a ppssible brother Thomas. However, these connections have been made through Australian records and no other siblings appear. I do have more information about these families if anything above strikes a cord. Once again Michael, thank you for apparently solving our problem for us. >Message: 7 >Date: Fri, 18 May 2007 20:27:09 +0100 (BST) >From: MICHAEL CLARKE <michaelclarke719@btinternet.com> >Subject: Re: [FERMANAGH] Is Donegall in Fermanagh? >To: fermanagh@rootsweb.com >Message-ID: <92798.36656.qm@web86102.mail.ird.yahoo.com> >Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 > >Adam4Eves@aol.com wrote: Where is the townland of Donegall in >Fermanagh? >JC>> > Hi John, > Go to Google Maps > Enter Donegal, Fermanagh > and you will find it here > >http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Donegall,+Fermanagh&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=29.634084,59.238281&ie=UTF8&ll=54.400148,-7.730942&spn=0.169876,0.462799&z=11&iwloc=addr&om=1 > > About five Miles or so out from Enniskillen on the minor road to >Derrgonnelly. > It is bordered by the townlands of Brackagh, Whitehill and Moyglass. > These three townlands, and many others, all show on Google Maps. > You can get a satellite picture too > Michael > Ardlougher (Hill of the Rushes) > Irvinestown > > > >Michael Clarke >6862-1436 >079-2241-`443 > _________________________________________________________________ Advertisement: 1000s of Sexy Singles online now at Lavalife - Click here http://a.ninemsn.com.au/b.aspx?URL=http%3A%2F%2Flavalife9%2Eninemsn%2Ecom%2Eau%2Fclickthru%2Fclickthru%2Eact%3Fid%3Dninemsn%26context%3Dan99%26locale%3Den%5FAU%26a%3D27782&_t=762255081&_r=lavalife_may07_1000sexysingles&_m=EXT
My great grandmother was CATHERINE MCUSKER of County Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland. (McCosker and MacKusker may be variants of the name.) She was born in the townland of Augharonan, which is near the market town of Fintona, in the civil parish of Donacavey around 1846 1851, depending on which documentary source is most accurate. This is near Fermanagh and there are some McCuskers, as well as McCarrolls, from that area. Catherine McCusker's father was a farmer named PATRICK MCUSKER. We do not have her mothers name; it may very well have been Catherine. While the information is not definitive, it is known that a Pat MCUSKER of Augharonan died in 1868. He did not have a will on file. Pat MCusker would have been born c. 1813, and the name of the registrars informant indicates that there was a John McCusker in the family. Catherine had a number of siblings: possibly JOHN MCUSKER of Legamaghery, but little is known of him except that he was a single farmer. Another possible connection was Thomas MGARRITY and JANE MCUSKER of Augharonan. There also was a JAMES MCUSKER, an unmarried farmer who was aged 40 in the 1901 census. Catherine married OWEN MCARROLL, also formally known as Eugene, at "full age." However, family oral histories have indicated that she was only 17 at the time of her marriage, and was living at Legamaghery. She was married in Fintona which is also in the civil parish of Donacavey. They were wed on 25 June 1867 in my great grandmothers church at Donacavey (Fintona). After her marriage she moved to her husbands small farm in the townland of Corkill (sometimes referred to as Corkhill), where they raised her family and he was a farmer. Corkill is about 2 miles south of Augharonan in the civil parish of Clogher, County Tyrone, Ulster. But, as is the case with most old Irish records, there is a discrepancy. She listed herself as a 60 yr old widow in the 1911 census, while the 1901 census indicated that Catherine was a 45 year old widow. That may be the result of the old age pensions that went into place in 1908. Owen and Catherine had at least seven children, all born at Corkill. All of the baptisms were actually located in the original church records in Clogher when viewed in 1982, but they were not found in the PRONI records in 1997. j.j.carroll@earthlink.net
You know that McCuskers (McCoskers) are around that area which could be expanded to include Southern Tyrone. My great grandmother was a Catherine McCusker and she married an Owen McCarroll from up around Fintona-Beragh area. Then there is a George McCarroll from San Diego that has been looking for his McCarrolls and Howes down in Fermanagh who also has some McCusker connections. I will post what information about our Catherine on the website and if you feel that there may be a connection you can buzz me back. In the meantime I will copy this to a real hard-working lady in Glasgow that has been looking into my family, as well as George's because she has some McCuskers also. Hi Joanne, I erased Sean's email, thinking it was spam. Any info you could send me from Sean would be great and I would appreciate it. As you know, I'm very interested in the Maguires. As we discussed in the past, my family is now in Cavan, but originally I think from Fermanagh. I'd love to do a family tree, but so busy with work, don't have the time yet, but hope to someday, perhaps after I retire. We are my youngest's graduation from Colgate. Take care.
