I am trying to trace any one with the surname Bruce from County Fermanagh. My Great Great Grandparents were Thomas Bruce (1801 - 1876) and Catherine (Fowler) (1804 to 1863). There are several lines of their descendants living in Australia. Two sons James and John migrated in the 1860's and the children of their daughter Mary, family name Mills, also came to Australia. Thomas and Catherine had an elder son Thomas (1836 - 1921) who married an Ann Creighton, who had daughters Catherine, Eleanor, Mary, Anne, Margaret, and Emily and a son Thomas. Thomas(1801 -1876) Snr and Thomas (1836 - 1921) Jnr both died at Tullynabohoge, Fermanagh. Can any one help? The name VANCE regularly appears and I am sure that they, like many other families settling in this area, were from Co. Fermanagh. Have a look at www.southernx.com.au/southigh.html for some names. For further research, I suggest you contact the Berrima District Historical & Family History Society Inc., and seek further info. The Society's page is at: www.highlandsnsw.com.au/bdhafhs.html and you will find their snail mail address (they don't yet have an email address) on that page. Good luck - I'm sure there are definite links here. Email me direct if you wish, Im happy to help. John DRUGAN married Rosey MANER in Ireland about 1840. Family memory - not really very convincing - is that they were from Fermanagh. They had at least 4 children Patrick b. 1845; William b. 1847; Peter b.1849 and Margaret b. 1851. They emigrated about 1850 to NY. John was not with the family in the 1860 US Census for Brooklyn NY. Rosey died in 1865 in Brooklyn. William, my ggrandfather died in Brooklyn in 1925. All and all information appreciated Maggie Denver, CO

There is a small group of us working on this surname. I will review what I have and send you some info tomorrow (its at home, and I'm at work). Gregg Loane Toronto, ON
Someone recently mentioned the name of the Secretary of The Clogher Hostorical Society. Could someone please tell me (again) his name, and where to write to join? By any chance do they have a website? Thanks, Janet C-S
To Pat in Ohio The Public Record Office Northern Ireland website at http://proni.nics.gov.uk/ has a map of the parishes in fermanagh at http://proni.nics.gov.uk/geogindx/ferm.htm and a key listing all the townlands in each parish. You will find what you are looking for there, Templecarn is parish number 22 on the map. The parish includes the western half of Boa Island, and a larger portion of the mainland between Lower Lough Erne and the border with Co Donegal. However you are only seeing less than one third of the parish in that map. The rest is in County Donegal. You say it is on the Rossbeg peninsula, but Fermanagh parishes are generally much bigger than any of the peninsulas in Lough Erne. There is a townland called Rossbeg in Fermanagh, don't know where, can't find it on my (Discovery Series - scale 1:50,000) maps. Might even be where the parish church is. Ros in Gaelic usually means headland or promontary, but may occasionally mean wood or copse or even old graveyard. Maurice Cassidy
To everyone that sent the Templecarne info to me. Wonderful. Could probably find this place with my eyes closed!!! Wished I would have known about it a few years ago when I was there. Want to see if anyone has parish records from there from 1752, I know, I know, deaming with my eyes wide open! Just may have to make another trip back,---------can hear the groans, well guys some one has to do it.!!!!!!! Thanks to one and all again. Pat in Ohio
Pat I hope this information may be helpful to you: Carne used to be called Templecarne a townland near Pettigo in Donegal. There isn't a church any longer but Carne Graveyard still exists. Carne and is one of the most ancient Christian centres in Donegal. It is about 2 miles from Lough Derg and has origins going back to St Patrick apparently. Templecarn sits right beside Co. Donegal....and probably another parish of the same name there. I don't know of any website to show it to you, but it is shown Brian Mitchells "A new genealogical Atlas of ireland".....civil Parish. Where, and to whom, would I write to regarding parish records in Derrychullo, Belleek? The local LDS library shows that there may be records extant from 1822 for Belleek, and refers to Clogher Care. I am seeking marriage records from 1829 and 1846 in Belleek, and it's a far reach from here in Canada. TIA Penny Parker Alberta, Canada pparker@compusmart.ab.ca
