It has recently been reprinted in a 6 volume set and is available from an Irish bookstore in Dublin, whose name escapes me at the moment, but if you have the name of a minister I could look it up for you as I have recently purchased the set. It does not give names of converts to the Primitive Weslyean Methodist religion. Don Boyle Brantford Ontario-Brunt

    3. Hello folks, I have a very little about the Methodists in Fermanagh from Andrew Henderson, who left Enniskillan in 1818. His aprents were devotees of Mr.Wesley and were known to him. Andrew left a series of Journals in which he described his daily life here in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Canada. The first of these journals starts by giving a brief(70 page)hisotry of his life and he mentions his parents meeting with Mr.Wesley and entertaining him in their home. His father preached before him at a conference. My line is also from Enniskillan to New Brunswick c 1818. It is Robert David HENDERSON and his 8 children. I am trying to find out who his wife was and the birth dates of his children. All we know for sure is that the youngest, George was born 22 Aug 1816 and was 2 yrs.old whent he family came to New Brunswick. Ropbert would have married between 1792 and 1798. His eldest child, according to census records would have been born in 1798. Hope some one can help. Oh, the children were John N.; Robert; William T; James; David; Elizabeth; Margaret; and George. Thank you for any help. I am more than willing to share info. Donna Lee HENDERSON BUTLER Granville ferry, Nova Scotia Canada dleebill@ns.sympatico.ca

    3. My patriarch and matriarch are John Stafford and Margaret Brunt. I was told that they were one of the many families that John Wesley of the early Methodist movement visited relatively often. I have quite a few of my ancestors that were Methodist ministers in the US. One was Dr. Thomas Albert Stafford (Chicago area) and the other was Rev. Garland Reid Stafford (Statesville, NC). I am interested in knowing more about John Stafford and Margaret Brunt. I believe that they lived in Parrish Cleenish, Bohevny, County Fermanagh. I do not know where they were buried or other specifics on their lives. It is said that John Stafford was a gun smith who moved to Bohevny from Staffordshire, England. I don't have hard proof of any of this information. Is there anyone who know someone with information on my family. Thanks, Larry Allen Stafford lstafford@johnstafford.org www.johnstafford.org

    2. Hi, is there a book available that will give a detailed history of the early Methodist movement in Fermanagh? Also, are there lists of names available of the Irish in this area who became Methodists? Or an address of the Methodist Church in Fermanagh that would have parish records? Thanks, Sandi

I've heard of a Scottish system, but could you please review the Methodist system for us new genealogists?! Was this peculiar to all Methodists or Irish Methodists? Thanks. Sarah

    3. The Methodist System as given to me, is as follows: First son named after paternal grandfather Second son named after maternal grandfather Third son named after father First daughter named after Maternal Grandmother Second Daughter named after Paternal grandmother Third daughter named after the mother. If there is any Researchers out there working on the "Methodists", I would be interested in hearing if they have any Elliott's, Trotters or Bell's. 3. This subject reminded me of not only the Enniskillen Marriage Register which summarizes the Methodist marriages from !850, but also of a book I saw regarding the development of the Methodist movement in Fermanagh. Mentioned in it were the visits of John Wesley to Enniskillen, friendly and unfriendly greetings. Also mentioned were the "meetings" which co-existed with the Church of Ireland, the official Protestant church during those years of the early 1800s. Eventually, many C.O.I. parishioners broke away after 1829, when a controversy in COI land taking occurred at Benmore which was for replacing the Church at Churchill . The Methodist Church at Cosbystown was mentioned. The book was: "The Days of Our Fathers, 1699-1829" by Nancy Walker Dundas, 1991 Nancy's address is: Nancy Walker Dundas Springhill Enniskillen Co. 2. Seeing Bonnie's notes today reminded us that our Methodist gr,gr grandparents Christopher LITTLE/LIGHTLE and Margaret SCARLETT emigrated in 1818 from Enniskillen to Cobourg and Port Hope Ontario, followed by others from Fermanagh, and the LIGHTLE clan donated the land and built the Methodist Church at Bethel Grove, just north of Port Hope. If any of you are researching Methodist emigrants from Fermanagh, you might look at this angle: According to history books we borrowed from Cobourg Public library, Cobourg's 1831 Methodist Academy grew into Victoria College which was the original educational centre for the Methodist movement in Upper Canada (Everything west of Quebec). The Library website is<http://www.eagle.ca/cpl/library.htm

    2. Hello, I'm new to this list. I'm looking for information on Gabriel Elliott who was born abt. 1815, perhaps in Devenish. He emigrated to Canada, perhaps with other members of the Elliott family and then moved to New Jersey where I find him in the 1880 census. His wife may have been Mary Anne Watson. Any help will be very much appreciated. Thank you, Sandi

    3. Hi List I am searching for descendants of John Prunty and Mary Smith who lived in Newtown Butler in the mid 1850'3. My Gr.. grandfather Patrick Prunty left Ireland in 1860 and migrated to Australia, where he worked on the Bendigo goldfields. John Prunty had a sister named Alice who married Michael Gibney and lived at Killishandra Co. Cavan. They had at least two boys who were ordained priests and came to Western Australia as missionaries in the 1860's. The eldest, Michael was the priest who heard Ned Kelly's (a bushranger) confession at Glenrowan Victoria, he later became Bishop of Perth WA and died in 1920. I would like to make contact with anyone who has any knowledge of these two families. TIA Brian Askew
