I have at least two cases of cousins marrying. The church records includes a notation that they got a dispensation from the bishop for "consanguinity" which means they were 2nd or 3rd cousins. There is even folk wisdom to the extent that the children of a couple whose names were the same before they married will possess "the cure." (I think it is for either measles or sore throats, forget which.) So marriage of people with the same names was common, too. Janet C-S

Has anyone ever come across names intermingling like this? I don't know if they had any relation to each other yet..If they did was it common to marry a distant cousin back in the 1800's? I don't know where Sarah was born yet, it only stated Ireland, and I don't know where my g-grandparents got married so I don't have that info yet. Was either in Ireland, Canada or NJ, but I am not sure yet. I do have Sarah's brother's name who lived with her & my g-grandfather in the 1900 census in NJ so I will probably write for his dc to confirm the above now. Thanks for listining.

Does anyone know where those records can be obtained? These do not look like LDS numbers. Cover title: Lisbellaw, "the Hard rocks" : a gazetteer of Lisbellaw and surrounding district. Author: Crawford, Joe Bibliography: p. 256. Includes pedigrees for the following families: Porter, Montgomery, Gore, Auchinleck, Lowry & Corry. The scope of this gazetteer includes the nearly 100 townlands within a three-mile radius of the town of Lisbellaw. The area of each townland and meaning of its name are given. Occupiers and lessors of the property at the time of Griffith's valuation are listed, and for comparison surnames of families residing there in 1992 are also listed. Birth/death records for everyone started in 1864 and can be obtained from GRO in Belfast. . Before that (1864) you would need to use church records, and would need to know the parish. So start with the marriage. Good luck.

    2. On 6/6/99, I received a message from a Mr David Black about locating a book. He stated that it was in Salt Lake City, but had not been fiilmed yet. "If there is printed information in the repository at Salt Lake City, and there is not a copyright restriction on it, any person can request either it be microfilmed or be made into michrofiches and be sent to the nearest Family History Center, after you have paid for such services. If you have it microfilmed, it will be on a reel of film and be "loaned" to your local FHC for a period of 60 days. You may extend this period for another 60 days if necessary. If you extend it for a third 60 day period, it will stay there indefinetly. If you have the material michrofiched, at 15 cents a sheet, it will remain at the nearest FHC indefinetly. The FHC also has the PERSI index. William J Flanagan Fermanagh County Host Spokane, Wa.,USA
