    1. Irish Naming Patterns
    2. As someone requested, here is what I have seen posted on another list. Keep in mind, it is not written in stone!! I have seen it followed, followed partly, and not followed at all. >Naming patterns are an ancient tradition among Irish and Scottish families. > Sometimes a family may not hold fast to the old custom, but it is a vital >clue to the next generation. This especially holds true of pre-1830's >families. > >1st son...named after father's father >2nd son..named after mother's father >3rd son...named after father >4th son...named after father's eldest brother > >1st daughter...named after mother's mother >2nd daughter...named after father's mother >3rd daughter...named after mother >4th daughter...named after mother's eldest sister > >Of course, this is not true for all families, but is worth considering. > Janet C-S

    3. Hi Janet, Can you tell me if the Irish have a similar naming pattern as do the Scots? That is first son after the fathers father, second son after the mothers father and third son after the father. It is very helpful when doing research in Scotland. The reference to Enniskillen may have just been as a general area or district, etc. Kinawley would be the closer area for Moher townland. Florence Court is shown on my Ordnance Survey 'Holiday Map',available all over Ireland as road maps for about 3 pounds. No MOHER, which is probably a townland, and too small for that map. I just now noticed that there was also a Kinawley Church at Derrylin, on road A509 marked on the old townlands map. Derrylin is about 6 mi. SW of Lisnaskea and 4 mi. SE of Kinawley. Florence Court is not shown on my townland map as it stops before that area. Florence Court is on a line almost exactly West of Lisnaskea. The Kinawley RC Chapel is shown on road B108 on that same map. It is about 3 mi. NW of Derrylin. This one is in the town of Kinawley, and I have monument inscriptions for that church cemetary. There are no Kellaghers/Kellehers listed. Sending a map of that area in separate post. Patrick Traynor, in California's gold-rush country. tray@jps.net

Mary Jane bpt 25 March 1827, Claragh 2. William Alexander bpt 04 Apr 1830,Claragh 3. Trotter bpt 14 Jan 1835. Claragh is apparently east of the town of Derrygonally and west of Lough Erne and close to the townlands of Fedian, Concaroe, and Enaghan. I would be very interested in the families of Trotter, Elliott, Bell and Bothwell, from these areas. Thank you, Bonnie If anyone is researching this area, I would love to hear from you. -- For family names I am researching visit my Web Page: http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/robibn/

    1. Looking for Any Information
    2. Hello! I have lost Janet's e-mail so I hope that she sees this. I had requested information on how to obtain a birth certificate on someone born in Fermanagh and Janet sent me an address and an example of what I should ask for. I wanted to thank her very much because I made one telephone call, to the General Register Office and they connected me to Northern Ireland Statistics & Research Agency. I spoke with a very nice and generous man named Simon. I told him what I needed and he told me to call back in about two hours. Of course I did, and HE HAD MORE INFO THAN I EVER COULD HAVE HOPED FOR! It was overwhelming for me to have this done so nicely and with so much care. He sounded as happy as I felt, to be able to give me the information. Two weeks later, I received a GRO Form 337A which gives me the information, on paper and offers to send me a free certified copy of the Birth Certificate, if I request it within 28 days. I am in awe! I immediately went to thank Janet for her excellent advice but had my computer worked on and lost most all address, information, favorites, etc. So please, Janet, if you are reading this, please know that you helped me out so much and I am forever grateful to you. Just a side note: I hired WorldWide Tracers in Arlington, Texas and paid some big money to have them find my grandmother, without results. I was told that getting this birth certificate was not an easy task and it would take a lot of time. Since time is against me, I started on my own. I am trying to get some of my money back; however, I signed a contract, so I am out the money. I told them of my success and am waiting to hear. Maybe they really will care about "our loved ones, our family history, etc" and do the right thing. Have any of you had dealings with this Agency? I am kicking myself because I became so desperate. Let me know if anyone else has nightmare stories about these search agencies, I would appreciate it! I was wondering if anyone could tell me about my grandmother's birthplace: MOHER, FLORENCECOURT, ENNISKILLEN? Also, could you recommend a really GOOD map that would show this location? (I think I have checked all of the possible web sites!) Is this a hospital area? I saw where she had written she was from Kinawley, County Fermanagh, but this seems kind of far from where I think Enniskillen is? Any information would be great! Again, thanks for helping me out so much. I truly love this site and hope someday a name will come up that I recognize and then I will be able to help you out. I am looking for any information on: Annie Kate Kellagher (spelled Kelleher on mother's birth certificate) and (Kelliher on adoption papers) Born - 01/11/1910 Immigrated to the US in March 1930. Resided with mother: Lizzie Kellagher (Elizabeth McBrien) and father, Patrick Kellagher on Clinton Ave in Brooklyn in July of 1933. That is where I lose her. I would be so appreciative for any information or hints or clues to this. Thanks Again! Sincerely, Dorcie Storms dstorms262@aol.com

There was also some mail which I had yet to even answer for teh first time.
