    1. more about that virus
    2. Linda Foh
    3. Since I'm not up on computer viruses, this is what a guru friend said when I asked about "sulfnbk"-- can't be too careful (I got infected badly last year) but don't get paranoid: This is another virus hoax. <sigh> It has been entioned in a number of newsletters including Fred Langa's LangaList. See, for example, the following Web pages: LangaList: The "SULFNBK" June 1st Virus Hoax http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2001/2001-05-31.htm#1 LangaList: How to Restore SULFNBK.EXE; and Hoax Follow-Up http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2001/2001-06-04.htm#1 Here are some of Fred's comments: "Well, SULFNBK.EXE file is a normal part of Windows that's used in managing long file names (the file is usually found in your C:\Windows\Command folder). Antivirus routines don't detect the file because it's not a virus. The 'virus' warning is a complete hoax. "The SULFNBK hoax caught a lot of people off-guard; many, many readers succumbed to the hoax and deleted their (perfectly good) copy of SULFNBK.EXE. Worse, some malicious hackers immediately took advantage of the hoax to spread a *real* virus/Trojan under the guise of offering a 'free replacement copy' of SULFNBK.EXE.... I won't be surprised at all if other miscreants also try to use SULFNBK.EXE for evil intent, as some people now will blow off any warnings involving it." Fred's point is that a virus hoax can have a number of harmful effects. It's not just a matter of causing people unnecessary concern, but it's also a matter of making them more vulnerable to genuine virus threats.

    3. This is NOT a virus, but a working part of your Windows system. Everyone has this file on their computer, which I understand controls the length of titles of the files. It is a rather sick practical joke, which I must admit, I was nearly caught by. 3. Hi Maureen, I believe my 2nd ggmother was Margaret Kearns b. abt 1820 and d. 11 Feb 1891 m. to Thomas Maguire. They were the parents of Philip Maguire (m. Mary Anne Bogue) who were the parents of my gmother Anna Maguire b. 1872 as well as Catherine b. 9 June 1864 and Thomas b. 3 May 1864. They were from Broughderg. I have not verified the Kearns connection yet nor have I found any Irish records of my gmother Anna. This is after much research. Thank the good Lord the Small's come from Scotland. I made this up from the LDS townland maps, and the "Manors" described in the OS memoires 1835. Clonnaroo is in the western part - the western piece of bread - on this map in yellow, north side in a little hollow, just on the border with Galloon. Some of my McDowell ancestors are just northeast of it, in Leitrim Td., now on the Galloon side of the parish border. ---- "Drummully Manors 1835.jpg" was attached to Maureen's copy ---- Tom [email protected] sur 18/12/2001 00:07:11 Pour : [email protected] cc : Objet : Clonnaroo Can someone tell me reasonably precisely where Clonnaroo, Parish of Drumully is. 3. if you happen to be searching for any of the surnames on these sites - and again, don't let the main surname fool you - then on these pages you will find nothing but quality and *pure* genealogy for a selection of names The Brennen family is mainly Down, but includes Antrim and Fermanagh records as well. The Earls family and their connected families take in Fermanagh, Clare, Galway - probably Antrim and Down as well, becuase I haven't checked every surname yet! The Kerr family and their connected families that I've looked at originated in Co. Tyrone. These are not your ordinary everyday family histories that we find on the web. with lots and lots of Irish Civil Registration information as well as parish records here Jane 1) The "Brennen Family Chronicles" at http://www.dankat.com/brennen/brennen.htm 2) The "Earls Family Chronicles" at http://www.dankat.com/earls/earls.htm 3) The "Kerr Family Chronicles" at http://www.dankat.com/kerr/kerr.htm

    3. I have been on the list for a while but haven't had time to post. Now I am making time. I am looking for any information on the Mills family and looking for anyone else researching Mills. I have a family tree that was made up by a gg grandfather Mills but unfortunately not a lot of history to go with it. This is what I know. James Mills - b?, died 1841, lived in Tullyvogady, County Fermanagh. (Not positive on the spelling of the townland. That's what he has written.) He married Ann Colter and they had 7 children: James (1799-1857-came to America 1854), Ann (m. Shaw b?, died 1856-lived in Ireland entire life), Hugh (1800-1874-lived in Ireland entire life), Mary (m. Jamieson - lived in Ireland entire life), John (Colter - 1801-1884-came to America 1832), Sarah (m. Johnston - lived in Ireland entire life), and Elizabeth (m. Jamieson - came to America in 1854). I don't really know too much more. I am pretty sure some of the family settled in Canada and the Northern states. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Donna in Florida

    1. GLENN FAMILIES from Fermanagh to Canada
    2. Penny Parker
    3. Hello all, I've been away from the list for some time, and thought that I would re-post my interests in the hopes that someone recognizes this family. I have quite a bit of information, but there are still some missing links ( of course). William GLENN b. approx. 1780's and his wife Christina emigrated to Canada in 1846 and originally settled in Durham Co., Ontario. Within ten years of their arrival, they moved in-land to the Huron tract, and settled in Hibbert and Usborne Co.'s. Their son, THOMAS GLENN, b. 1833, travelled with them, and is said to have apprenticed with a Mr. JAMESON, in Cavan Township, Durham Co., as a shoemaker. In 1859, Thomas married ISABELLA RONEY, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (CARSCADDEN), who had emigrated from Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim. I am a decendent of Thomas and Isabella, and have a complete listing of their family. JOHN GLENN b. 1810 married JANE STEWART, b. 1810, in Beleek, and emigrated to Canada with their children (4 prior to emigration) in 1840. They too originally stopped in Durham Co., and subsequently moved on to Huron Co. I have a complete decendency of their family also. JANE GLENN b. 1815, married ALEXANDER JAMESON, and emigrated with her brother and sister-in-law, JOHN and JANE (STEWART) GLENN to Canada in 1840. JANE was born in Fermanagh and Alexander JAMESON, was reportedly from "just outside the town of Pettigoe" in Fermanagh. They too, originally settled in Durham Co., and in 1856, moved to Blanshard Township, Perth Co., Ontario. MARY GLENN b. 1821 in Fermanagh, emigrated with the family in 1840 and married THOMAS BRUCE in Cavan Township, Durham Co., in 1842-44(?). Again, they moved on to the Huron Tract. In 1888, they further relocated to Portage la Prairie Manitoba. Their youngest daughter was named CHRISTINA (William Sr.'s wife's name) and for a time they lived with THOMAS AND ISABELLA. SAMUEL GLENN b. 1819 in Fermanagh also ended up in the same region of Ontario, and married ELLEN CARTER. One of their daughters married a son of Jane and Alex Jameson... Although I have scads of information, there are several missing pieces to the puzzle. The questions I have are... What was CHRISTINA'S (wife of William) maiden name? Although I have strong coincidental connections, I have no solid proof of how THOMAS GLENN is related to JOHN, MARY and JANE (all siblings). Thomas worked for a Mr. JAMESON (Jane's married name) in Durham, and THOMAS BRUCE (Mary's husband) worked for him in Huron. In the 1851 census of Huron Co., William Glenn (Thomas's father), lived with Thomas and Mary Bruce. Thomas and Isabella farmed on the North East Boundary of Huron Co., on land right next to John and Jane Glenn's land, and part of Thomas and Isabella's land was, at one time, sold to John and Jane's daughter-in-law. William and Christina, Thomas and Isabella and some of their children, John and Jane and their family, are all burried in the same cemetery in Huron. SAMUEL also appears to be directly related to the family. He and his wife, Ellen, are burried in adjacent plots to Alex and Jane Jameson, and their children (kissing cousins) married. I have no direct proof of kinship, but it looks promising. The families were all of the Methodist faith, both in Fermanagh and in Canada, not surprisingly, most of their children were named John, James, William, Elizabeth, Ann, Jane, Tom etc...generation after generation! If there is anyone on the list that has ANY information on these families that they can share, I would be forever greatful. Looking forward to hearing from you, and many thanks in advance. 2. Dear Listers: I think I have found my gggrandfather Hugh McDonnell in Lehinch townland of Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh. He shows up in the 1901 census as 70 years old with Thomas McDonnell (24) living with him. I am not sure of Thomas' relationship to Hugh but it could be his son. Is there anyone who could do a lookup in the Saint Mary's Church in Newtownbutler for the birth of my ggrandfather John McDonnell with Hugh McDonnell and Bessie Maguire as his parents. I would like to verify this as well as the townland where they lived. If there is anyone on the list who is from the Newtownbutler area who is familiar with the McDonnell/Maguire's near Lehinch could you contact me? My great aunt was writing to someone as late as the 1960's but when she died no one continued to write and no one in the family knew exactly who she was corresponding with. 3. I realize that you may be confused over my heading in a Fermanagh list. However my gt gt grandmother, Jane Elizabeth McMahon was said to have been born in Fermanagh. As the whole family gave their address as nr Pettigo, County Donegal when they arrived in Sydney Australia, in 1857 per 'Emma', I suppose that the place in "nr Pettigo" must have been in Fermanagh Co. Could anyone enlighten me as to which tiny village or part of Pettigo this could have been please. Her father was Patrick McMahon, her mother Winefred Flood but I have had no luck in tracking them any further in Donegal. enough to start with thanks in advance Sandra in Maryborough Qld Australia
