    3. Hi Helen, Yes, that townland is Leighan. Curious that the type is even smaller there than for most other names, but it's very clearly (under a magnifying glass) Leighan. Crawford.

I can't find this on my modern day map or the 1899 ordnance map but there is a Leighan smack bang in the middle of places like Monea, Giltagh, Longrobb, Drumadown which are all other places that the family name appears in. Crawford MacKeand's townland map has a townland right where the modern day Leighan is but the typing is fuzzy - looks like L..gh.n. Crawford - is your original copy any clearer?. It's the townland next to Giltagh , Derryvary Beg and below Scandally. I'll try to look up the Brean/Brien estate records but I wonder if the same family were landlords 90 years before the date you mentioned. How do I find out who was landlord in the mid 1700's?? thanks for the ideas. I'm sure persistence will pay in the end. Helen

    3. I am sorely tempted to volunteer. My reluctance to go full bore is that I do not have a data base program on my computer. My son-in-law is supposedly building me a super duper computer with spare parts and condemed equipment He is the Chief of Computer Ops and he get 1st dibs on stuff that the Data Base people decide are obsolete. I need MS Office with its DBase capability before I start the program you envisage. I'm a bit selfish on this one, altho working jointly with you gives me a chance to payback for advice you've given to me in the past. Now for some groveling! I need direction on where to go for pre-1860 births and marriages information held in Fermanagh. In Louth I used the County Library and Kathy O'Hagan, the Sr Library Asst. The Library could access the Armagh Diocessen data base and I got printouts back to 1767. Churches-of-interest records do not go back further than that for me in Louth. Question=is there a similar resource in Fermanagh? I know the documents must come from the churches where the blessed events took place, but the D-Base printouts tell which parishes to seek out.. Then you have to threaten the priest to get the data (except in Ardee, where the parish secretary has a turn-around time of 2&5/7 weeks). She even sent me a copy of a record book page because the name was so poorly written and the data base name just didn't seem right. That's all I'm looking for. When I get my surprise package from my son-in-law I'll let you know what capabilities I have. I donn't want to volunteer if I don't have the equipment! We'll go from there! Bill G

    3. Most people subscribe to the Fermanagh site to search for information on their individual families or relations thru marriage. Fortunately, I have the time, and the patience, and the facilities to record all surname requests from this site. Remember that Bible Phrase" Cast ye bread upon the waters. ?? By helping others, you end up helping yourself. Each of us may submit our family information to a central Data Base. Is there someone there who will correlate this and send a message to us of a possible match ??? What I am getting at, if what you see on this site does not have the correct spelling, of the particular townland you are looking for, do not disregard any information that is closely remote to what you are looking for. In an effort to find my ancestors, I will show you a sample of what I listed. And Why There are sixteen variations of the spelling of my family name; Flanagan I use the alphabetical sequence in listings' Flanagan/Flanagan Flanagan/Flanagin Flanagan/Flannagan Flanagan/Flannagin Whenever someone submits information that is even remotely related, I have a chance of locating a relationship. The rich family in early Ireland were educated. could read and right. IN the early 1600's, 1609 to 1620's, The Plantation Period, we had English and Scottish Landlords with their lackeys doing all the writing of family and property names, etc. If you have read old English you will understand where I am coming from. The use of E I O & U were so mixed up, the use of Mc for Mac, the O' dropped on lists, etc. All too often , on this web site, I have seen rejection of information because of the spelling. If all of us were able to see and read the census of 1900, you would be surprises at the number of Immigrant who could not read nor write. If it is even close Phonetically, I file it for future reference. I hope you all will do the same.

When I look on the LDS library listing they seem to only have filmed rent records for the 1800's. It would seem that I may have to hire a researcher in Belfast to find this. Does anyone have any suggestions? does anyone know a good researcher?? helen

    2. Penny Stinson
    3. Can anyone direct me to any information on Castle Archdale? Apparently my folks were tenant farmers on Colonel Archdale's estate in the early 1800s prior to bailing out for Canada about 1846. They were Church of Ireland people who worshipped in the Church of St. Molaise at Monea. The earliest known is George STINSON (b. 1804, d. 1869 in Canada); wife Anne Jane BRITTON (b. 1807, d. 1892 in Canada). Children were Ellen, Margaret, James, Jane, Margery, Elizabeth, William Britton and John. Only John was born in Canada. I am hoping to locate records on any of George's siblings (possibly Alexander, James and Robert) or Jane's siblings (none known). We believe Robert STINSON (1872-1938), grandson of this James, was the last of the family to farm in Drumanure. Any help would be gratefully received. Penny Stinson Edmonton, AB, Canada

It is located in the townland of Edergool, in the south east corner of Galloon on the county Cavan border area. 4. Directions to find it on a map (not as good as the one's I have) To the West is the townland of Derrykerrib To the North is the townland of Derryelvin. To the North East is Clonnaroo. To the East is Drumcrin, where the church is located. To the South East is the townland of Annaghmore Glebe ( Glebe indicates Church Property) I hope this aids you in your search.
