Hello Rita, Regarding military records. I had someone look at PRO Kew to find the military records for me. You need to know the regiment in which an ancestor served to make it easier to find in the first place. My grandfather also followed his father into the 76th Regt along with all his brothers. Grandfather and his brothers born in various parts of the world - Portsmouth, Malta, Nova Scotia and Belfast. Military records are definately worth looking for as they reveal next of kin, date of military service, postings and details of illnesses. Haven't worked on the Maguire family yet. Must do so very shortly. Best wishes, Kate Hands, Australia

Kate: Just curious...how did you locate John Drumm's military records ? Also, in Rebecca Maguire's family was anyone named Margaret Maguire? Margaret married John Fitzgibbon (about 1840)...he was in the military. I'm thinking he may have been assigned to Enniskillin. Dear William, I have my GGrandfather's official birth certificate from Ireland and his place of birth is listed as : Gortian (as best as I can make out from the script) Newtownbutler. Is that a townland near the town of NTB or is it a section of NTB town itself? When put into Google it comes up as a stone formation. Or is it Gaelic for something like "born in" Janet Morgan found my McDonnell relatives in NTB 2 months ago. Ireland here I come. Bought the tickets today! Persistance is the key and leave no stone unturned!
Hi Bill, > Would appreciate information on the townland of Meelroe which I believe > is just north of Lack. Thank you.
Thought I would just put my great grandfather's name on the list again to see if others have a connection with the family. Looking for connections to DRUMM family of Derryvullan, nr Irvinestown, co Fermanagh. My ancestor (John DRUMM) was bn c1826 and probable father was James Drumm according to military records. For Allan Griffith- Alan, I had some spare time on my hands and decided to do a search for the name ISABELLA BEATTY at www.irishorigins.com I then clicked on one of the recommended websites http://genealogy.org:80/~ajmorris/ireland/ireemg/ireemgb.htm where the following information was posted by someone named Andrew J. Morris: BEATTY, Isabella, 22, Spinster, Londonderry, 1803/04/15 Hope this helps, Rita Allan Griffith wrote: > Susan, Thanks, I'll file it in case I run into more families- Margaret could be my Isabelle's older sister.... > or... ? - I too wish there were more.
