Can anyone help this Kiwi. My GGGrandmother was born in Fermangh Ireland 1831. She married in Australia 1856 and died in New Zealand 1910. I have her marriage certificate and her death certificate but neither give enough information other than names of her parents. Where do I send for a copy of her birth certificate. None of the documents give any other information than Fermanagh. Kind regards Pauline

If you you figure out what parish she was from, and IF you are very lucky, you might be able to get a copy of her baptismal record from her parish church. But many parish records didn't start until after that--Devinish RC records start in 1853, for instance. Btw, you didn't mention her name or her religion. Your next step might be (since you know the names of her parents) to try to identify the parish by locating both her parents' names in Griffith's Valuation. (If you are not sure what that is, read about it here: Irish Ancestors;Land Records This might not work if the names are very common, however. But it may get you a few parishes to zero in on as likely. Then you can look for church records. Janet
Looking for any information on a Hugh Coulter. He is presumed to be from Fermanagh, possibly in or around Enniskillen. He was born before 1800. He was married and had 4 children Samuel, James Jane and Ann. His wife's name is unknown. He had 4 brothers who emigrated to Hastings Co., Ontario, John, Thomas, James and William. John was a blacksmith in Bellevlle Ont. and the other brothers were farmers in the area. The will of John indicates that Hugh and his children were still living and in Ireland in 1857. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Dick Jones archbar@aol.com
Hi again, I respect and understand that people do not put where they live, but if there is someone living near Kinawley could you please let me know who the Church of Ireland Minister might be for Derrylin, or might have access to the Holy Trinity Church of Kinawley records. I believe the Church is either no longer standing, or is no longer used. Also does anyone know if marriage licenses from 1820-1848 had the same info as the marriage record from the Church? The microfilm from the LDS that had Wiliam McMahon and Mary Browne md dec 1846 Kinawley is difficult to read. It does give father's names, the bride and grooms age and residence. I just have not been able to read some of the handwriting. Thanks again so very much. Joy Irene
Hello everyone, I have just found some birthdates on a 1901 Canadian Census for my elusive Irish 3 Grt Grandparents. One was born March 17 1827 and the other Oct 28 1827. The year may be off by one poss 1826. My question is. Now that I can narrow it down, and they were married in Kinawley Parish. At the time of their marriage in 1846 they were living in aughalurcher and either Dromlone or Dromborry. (After the Droml or b it is unreadable bumps.) Where is the best place to go next. Do I try to find out the name of the minister in Derrylin C of I and write sending a donation for looking up a birth record for Mary Browne in March 1826/27 or do I try an on-line search and use a credit card? William wasn't born in Ireland but his parents were married and then left for they believe Baltimore. William born in Oct 1827 was their oldest son. Do I look for a marriage record for James McMahon from Aughalurcher poss son of William (Grandpa) 1825-Feb 1827? I have searched the available LDS materials, and either need to Church records or a Historical society? I have not tried to get birth records or marriage records yet from Ireland, other than ones on microfilm from the LDS. I would appreciate any suggestions, advice, or comments of other people's experiences trying to find 1820 info. Does anyone know if there was an Irish settlement in or near Baltimore, Maryland in the 1820's? William was born there. His mother died and he was sent back to Ireland to be raised by Grandparents. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Joy Irene Just beginning to uncover my Fermanagh roots. Fermanagh names Ross, McMahon, Browne, Mcgee. Also check the Tithes list. This will tell you what parishes you can find it in. Then go to the church records for that parish, see if you can find any of them listed--if you are lucky enough for your parish records to cover those years. I am working on a new "room" on the web site of the Mobile (Alabama) Genealogical Society. It's called THE NEWS STAND and is a listing of (and links to) genealogy columns that appear in newspapers around the world which accept genealogical queries and/or announcements. I started out with the intention of listing only those columns which were geographically close to Mobile, but I received listings from far-and-away and, after some contemplation, decided that since MGS members have ancestry *everywhere*, it would serve our membership to include listings from areas far removed from the Gulf Coast. If that information also benefits other Internet surfing genealogists -- all the better. This message is a request for assistance from the online genealogical community. I need you to tell me about the genealogy columns that appear in your local newspaper(s) so that I can create a comprehensive listing for them in THE NEWS STAND. What we like to include in each listing is... 1. the name of the column 2. the image of the columnist 3. the name of the columnist 4. the frequency of the column -- in what paper(s) does it appear and when? 5. the geographic circulation of the paper(s) -- in what counties/parishes/shires do(es) the paper(s) have home delivery and/or rack sales? 6. the postal address to which queries and announcements can be sent 7. the e-mail address to which queries and announcements can be sent 8. the address of any web site that is associated with the column (especially if the column is being archived there) Now, BEFORE you e-mail me your responses, PLEASE visit THE NEWS STAND first. The column you want to tell me about might already be there. Some of the listings are incomplete. I would appreciate help in "filling in the blanks" *as well as* information about columns which are not currently listed. We currently have about 40 columns listed which appear in newspapers in 3 Australian States, 3 Canadian Provinces and 21 United States. See for yourself. The Cyber Lobby for the MGS web site can be found at http://www.siteone.com/clubs/mgs Scroll down to, and click on, THE NEWS STAND. One last thing. PLEASE *DO NOT* send your replies to the list from which you may have received this message. Be careful using your "Reply To" button and send your replies directly to me ONLY at <ksellew@zebra.net>. If you choose to send queries or announcements to any of the columnists listed in THE NEWS STAND, be sure to FIRST read the guidelines we have set out for submissions. If you submit "faulty" or "incomplete" information (like omitting your postal address and only providing your e-mail address), the columnists will simply discard your submission. Read and follow the guidelines to ensure that your information is successfully accepted by the columnists. With all that said, please visit THE NEWS STAND and let me know of any genealogy columns in your local papers. Remember, they MUST be columns that accept genealogical queries and/or announcements from readers. Thank you for your time. 8-) -- Regards, Kevin Sellew in Mobile, Alabama, USA E-Mailto:ksellew@zebra.net *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* President of the Mobile (Alabama) Genealogical Society -- a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization and WebMaster for the Mobile Genealogical Society Web Site *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Hello, everyone. I am new to the list. I am researching the above names. Richard HILLIARD (a gardener) born circa 1815/20 - married Mary MONTGOMERY probably circa 1835/40. They had a daughter, Margaret HILLIARD, born 1841 in Enniskillen, Fermanagh. and possibly a daughter, Annie HILLIARD, born 1845. The two girls came to Australia in 1865. Margaret is my husband's Great grandmother. If anyone can offer any information re these families, I would love to hear from them. Regards, Alison Griffith
