Might the dates for your Simon Christopher Loane be 1883 (not 1833)-1940 (this is per Burke's Irish Family Records) . I looked up my info and found that Simon Christopher Loane's brother, Andrew (whom I remember), was my great-grandfather. He emigrated with his wife (Annie Hanna) and son (Bob) to Montreal Canada in 1920 (or so). I have two sources of info on the Loane ancestors of Simon and Andrew, but unfortunately, both are 'secondary sources'. First, I have the compiled genealogy from Burke's Irish Family Records. Secondly, I have a hand-written genealogy passed to me by a cousin in Ireland. The latter is credited to a specific person, but one that I believe has passed away. It is identical to the Burke's data, except that it actually has a little more info (i.e. dates and a second, not-entirely connected Loane line). I would love to compare data. All my specifics are as follows: Gregg Loane 205 Patricia Avenue North York, Ontario Canada M2M 1J7 Please drop me another e-mail and we'll discuss. This is pretty exciting, as I have NO distant cousins to correspond with regarding my Loane line. Glad I subscribed to this list! Thanks! Gregg

    3. Is anyone familiar with the name of McCaffrey from Newtown Butler, County Fermanagh? Someone told me it is on the border of Fermanagh & Monaghan. James P. was born in 1865, his son, James Patrick born in 1887 and a son, John born in 1889. There was also another John born in 1866 and an Edward in 1869. The Mother of John, James P. and Edward was Jane Brady. If anyone has any information on this family, please email me. Thank you very much. Kathy

    1. CAN YOU HELP?
    2. Kathryn Jackson
    3. Hi, I am wondering what is the best way of continuing my research on my family from Ireland. Family stories say the original McKEARNEYs came from Fermanagh to Preston, Lancashire. I have the following information and would love some advice on what would be the best way for me to proceed. Living in Australia of course does not help matters and I may need the help of a professional researcher... can anyone recommend someone?? The information I have is as follows: McKEARNEY, Hugh married Mary ???? both born Ireland children: all born Ireland Anne b.c. 1840 Hugh bc. 1842 Andrew b.c. 1844 Thomas bc. 1845 Mary b.c. 1848 I realise it isn't much, but as I said in 1861 they were living in Lancashire, England, so I am presuming that sometime between 1848 - 1861 they made the big move. At this stage there is no indication that they were present for the 1851 census in England. I need to check back before 1848 in Ireland... what and where is the best place to find any records.. All suggestions welcomed. Thanks Kathryn Adelaide, Sth Australia

    2. Katherine The Hibernian Research Co is a good source. The Heritage Centre 26 Market Square Dungannon Cty Tyrone Bt70 1AB is also very good. The Barry name came from two brothers from Wales coming to Ireland in 1176 during the Anglo Norman invasion. There were so many of them they became known as Barry Mor. The Barrymore trio Ethel John and Lionel are all decendants of them according to the Irish dictionary of names. Patricia

    3. I recently visited the burial place of my husbands gr-grandfather, Patrick BARRY. His headstone reads, "Patrick Barry, a native of Co. Fermanagh, Ire.". He was born in Co. Fermanagh ca. 1815-20 and I am wondering what is the best way to find out where. Research thus far indicates that BARRY is not a common name in this part of Ireland, and I am hoping that its relative rarity will be a help. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what is the most likely source of further information He came to the U.S ca 1850 and settled in Linn, Osage Co., Missouri where he farmed until his death in the early 1900s. Any advice greatly appreciated. Katherine Doyle Ryan Smith

He lived in the North Western part of the U.S, and then moved somewhere along the East Coast of the U.S. Does anyone know who he is or how he can be reached? Thank you Mary Murray

    1. Re: FERMANAGH-D Digest
    2. Hi! I'm new to the net and this digest. I am seeking any information about Armstrong's and Blarkely's from Enniskellen, or the surrounding area. My ggg grandfather, William Armstrong was born about 1775-1785 in Fermanaugh. He married Catherine Blakely by license. The marriage was solomized at Irvinestown, in the parish of Derryvollen, April 17, 1819. Their son, my great grand father, William Armstrong was born about 1829 at Enniskellen. Members of the family, at least sons Thomas and William and their mother Catherine, emigrated to Ashfield, NSW, Australia about 1855. There is a headstone erected to the memory of Catherine [Blakely] Armstrong, in Waverly Cemetary. Catherine's husband William presumably died in Ireland. William Armstrong, b. abt. 1829 married Caroline Carr in 1868. and died 1882, Ashfield, NSW, Australia. Any help anyone can give me will be very gratefully received.

    3. It's been a while since I posted this and am hopeful that there are some new listmembers out there with some information. I am searching for information on my immigrant ancestors and their descendants from County Fermanagh. Alexander HOGG m. Rebecca ISLES (ILES) in 1862 at Tubrid Church in Drumkeeran Parish. Their children: Eliza Jane HOGG b. 11 Jan 1864; Edward Alexander HOGG b. abt 1865; Mary Ann HOGG b. abt 1868; and Isabelle Rebecca HOGG b. abt 1872. Alexander HOGG's father was John HOGG and Rebecca ISLES father was Christopher ISLES. The ISLES family lived in Feddans, Drumkeeran Parish. Alexander and Rebecca lived with Christopher ISLES after their marriage. I am trying to trace the whereabouts of Eliza Jane HOGG and her brother Edward Alexander. I can find no record of them anywhere other than their births. I am also looking for information on John HOGG and Christopher ISLES. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. 3. >>Hi Bob, Doubt that this will help any but when I saw the Wherry name it clicked right away. I have a Mrs. Jane (Porteus)Wherry. She is the sister of my Rev. William Porteus of Enniskillen, Ireland. This is all I know of her. He raised all of his children in this area as far as I know at this time. Mrs. Jane (Porteus) Wherry's other siblings are: Margaret Porteus, Mrs. Stevenson, and Mrs. Gamble in addition to four brothers: Rev. Wm. Porteus (meantioned above), and John, James and Simon Porteus. I am trying to learn more about Rev. Porteus now. He is my g-g-g grandfather. If I come across any more Wherry connections, I will pass them along. Good Luck! Ronnie<< Ronnie, Thank you for your response. I would very much appreciate any information you may gather on Wherry family connections. I have been in contact with some people in the area around Tempo. They have been very helpful in locating Wherry family members in NI. However, I understand there does not appear to be any trace of the WHERRY name in Fermanagh at this time. I am hoping to get over there someday (my son is attending school in Dublin) and do some research. Reagards Bob Ballston Spa, NY
