I was recently told that an ancestor of ours Dr. John Brady had a brother Fr. Tom Brady. It is said that Fr. Tom was a chaplin in the American Civil War and that John Brady was General Grant's personal physician. If anyone has any information on this, please let me know. The Bradys were from Co. Fermanagh. Thank you. Kathy

That is, he was the son of Brian Maguire and Bridget Nugent (daughter of James Nugent) and the son of Cuchonnacht Mor Maguire. Cuchonnacht Oge's "Christian" name was Robert and thus can be confusing. About getting what you require, I remember seeing copies of Clogher Record in the Family History Library at Salt Lake City, Utah. If they don't have what you want, I have a way of contacting the society to obtain older copies of the periodical. Slan agus Beannacht Phil McManus (seannachie clanna Mac Maghnusa)
Hi everybody -- I hope everyone is making progress in researching their family trees. I just received a copy of my great grandparents marriage certificate. My gr-grandfather, James McCann married Elizabeth Anne Morrison in 1885. His parents are listed as James McCann and Mary McGettigan. His parents died in Ireland. They were from Northern Ireland but I still do not know where --- I'm still working on that. If anyone recognizes any of these names, please email me. Thank you. Kathy
I too am interested in School's Board addresses. Chris, Tasmania

Since you already know the issue, you are well on the way. Cost for me was a small donation (UK pounds). I am sure the Enniskillen Library address is on the Internet somewhere; I have not found any e:mail address for them. Alternatively the Clogher Record still publishes annually and may have back issues for sale; in 1996 the Record still listed the 1957 issue available at 9 punts plus postage. About $20 US. (published in Co Monaghan, so Irish punts). Try Theo McMahon, Hon. Editor, 6 Tully, Monaghan, Co Monaghan, Ireland. You might find it easier and cheaper to get a hold of UK currency and go through the library. Good luck. Doug Fletcher
By popular request I am reprinting the McCaffrey lineage. The McCaffreys were from Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh. Anyone who has any information about this line, please email me. Thank you. This list was very helpful in my first post, so I'll try another, I should have included this in my first posting. which read: > I am desparately seeking the following manuscript, it may contain the > final link in my Maguire genealogy, any help will be appreciated. > "An Early History of Fermanagh", a manuscript written by > John Dolan in 1721 and published in the 1957 CLOGHER RECORD. Someone out there may already have the information I am looking for in the above manuscript. I'll try to start at the beginning: I found this note in reference to my 6th G.Grandfather "Constantine the younger, alias Cohonaught, Page of the family of Tiempoe, in the county of Fermanagh," One source indicated that Costantine the younger would translate to Cuchonnacht Og, who was mentioned in the "An Early History of Fermanagh", and may have died before 1720, and was possibly a son, but in error was listed as a grandson, of Cuchonnacht Mor Maguire who was killed in the Battle of Aughrim in 1691, If anybody has the genealogy of Cuchonnacht Mor Maguire the information I am seeking may be contained in it. The North of Ireland Family History Society is a non-profit organization that is informative, patient, and honest. I found this site while searching for my Scots-Irish ancestors. The secretary Rob Davison has provided help, direction and most of all the kindness that is found in the Irish people. I would highly recommend anyone that has hit a brick wall or has any questions to search this site. I joined the society, the cost is 10 pounds sterling. They suggest getting a check through RUESCH INTERNATIONAL BANK, although I am not that patient. So, I just went to my local bank, got 10 pounds sterling in cash (at current exchange rate, no fee) and sent cold hard cash. I live in a VERY small town in East Tennessee and our banks carry foreign currency so I am sure that yours does, too. The North of Ireland Society received the cash and immediately sent out their annual journal. No problem! Their patient part comes in the million seemingly dumb questions that I have the ability to ask (being blonde IS an asset). I now have the Townland, Barony, Parish and Poor Law Union of my ancestors. They were able to 'translate' the spellings from an obituary in the late 1800's. Their site can be located at: http://www.mni.co.uk/nifhs/ Happy hunting! Mary McG in Tennessee
My ancestors, Johnston and Joseph REA, circa 1790 until emigration in 1818, were from the Townland of Killybane, the County of Fermanagh, Barony of Magherastephana, Parish of Aghalurcher and Lisnaskea Poor Law Union. Does anyone have any information on this area or people? Regards, Mary McG in Tennessee
Seeking information about John BRUCE, born County of Fermanagh in 1799. John was married to Jane ? , born in County Donegal June 22, 1820. Both died in the town of Goderich, County Huron, Province of Ontario, Canada. John died November 14, 1882, age 83 years, 6 months. Jane died July 31, 1888. The names of their children are not known, however, it is likely that one son is D.A. Bruce. John and Jane's grandson, John Bruce was born in about 1861 in County Durham, Province of Ontario, Canada and died in Ottawa, Ontario January 17, 1906. A search of the Griffith's Valuation CD shows the name BRUCE in the town of Belleek, Co. Fermanagh. Given its proximity to Co. Donegal birthplace of John's wife Jane, I wondered about the possibility Belleek being the birthplace of John BRUCE. Any information or assistance regarding BRUCE families in Co. Fermanagh would be appreciated. Jill Dale Ottawa, Ont. Canada Jill Dale Searching: WEBSTER, McCALLUM (Scotland), McCALLAN, BRUCE, McVEIGH, MARTIN, HUGHES, KERWIN, McCORMICK (all Ireland)

Does anyone know anything about a Belmore Castle in Fermanagh? I would have been built -- or at least renovated -- in the last half of the 17th century. I've found information on Enniskillen Castle on the web. Is this the same castle? I know there's currently a Belmore Court motel in Enniskillen. Also, can anyone clarify the relationship of the Earl of Enniskillen, the Earl of Erne, and the Earl of Belmore? Do these titles relate to separate regions, or has the name given to this title simply changed through the years. Is there a current Earl of Erne or Earl of Belmore? If so, is there an e-mail address for his office? Thanks Kirk Chritton Surnames: STEPHENSON, MORTIMORE, STUART

HI All, I have recently started my genealogy search and in my search I was led to Fermanagh. My gggrandmother Elizabeth Crozier was from Enniskillen in the County Fermanagh as was my gggrandfather James Love. It was said that James Love had a wife and children who died during the famine. He at some point after their deaths married Elizabeth he came to the USA in 1854 and settled in Worcester Ma. Elizabeth followed in 1855 with 2 of their children. The other side of my family is O'Dowd. It appears my gggrandfather was born in 1827 in sligo his name was Domenick O'dowd he also traveled to the USA we don't know when and settled in Hopkington Massachusetts and later moved to Worcester Ma at some point the O was dropped form the name. If anyone has any info that would help in my research it would be most welcome. Thank You, Kathleen
Al: I have an Isabella Wiggins who married Arthur Armstrong on Dec 15, 1819. Both of Fermanagh, Poor Law Union of Clones. My family, Armstrongs, lived on the townland of Kilmore which is in the south of Fermanagh near the border and close to Newtownbutler. In the townland of Carneyhome which is just across the road from Kilmore there was a family of Wiggins. Of course Wiggins is quite a common name in Fermanagh as is Armstrong. I dont have much more information, but believe Arthur Armstrong was a brother to my gggrandfather Thomas Armstrong. Several offsprings were named Wiggins. Donald J. Boyle brantford, ontario, canada
I want to thank all of you for helping me in my "Bridget" dilemna. After reading this very old letter from Ireland in 1932, it occurred to me that when my gr-grandmother's sister writes of Sister Bridget's death in Nov. 1920, she didn't say that Bridget died there so Bridget could very well have been the same Bridget that lived in the USA and died here in 1920. I have to talk with some elderly relatiaves to see if they can remember when her death took place. Then I will try to get a death certificate. Thanks again. Kathy
