If you are looking for the Church of Ireland, you could write by parish. The parish names would be the same as the present civil parishes. There is a book, with a title something like "A Guide to the Parish Records of Ireland" . I will try to remember or get the exact title and author for you. Janet C-S
My understanding is that approximately 30 Protestant churches existed in County Fermanagh during the mid to late 1700s. Could someone point me in the right direction to obtain a list of those churches? Regards, Bob Walker Researching: HINES, HYNES, HINDS
This virus is not a HOAX it was sent to me from a friend who did not have her virus definitions updated; her computer was crashed; mine wasn't because my virus protector was updated. The person she got it from wasn't updated either. In all about 12 people that we know of were infected. THIS IS A VERY LETHAL VIRUS. So please update your virus definitions and get a good Virus protector. Don't open email attachments unless you know who they are from, even then use caution (I knew where mine was coming from). Check out Symantec's web site it has a very good description of the virus and what it will do to your system. The virus by the way will activate on the 26th of each month, so there will be some people who will find out today if they got infected with it. Sandra Dube' Kemano B.C. Canada

Hello This is my first posting to the list. I am researching my maternal family tree, the surname being SOMERS. My great great grandfather , JAMES SOMERS, emigrated from Co. Fermangh , Ireland between 1841-1845, settled in Wawnosh Township, Huron County, Ontario, Canada later in the Village of Blyth , Huron County, Ontario, Canada. JAMES married ELIZABETH JOHNSON reportedly in Fermanagh Co approx 1836 (or earlier). ELIZABETH and JAMES had 5 children: Three born in Ireland: WILLIAM (1837), ELIZA (1840), RICHARD (1840) - my great grandfather Two in Canada : JAMES(1846) ; ROBERT (1852). I wonder if there is any way to determine : 1) when , where James & Elizabeth were married? - and if so, their parents? 2) where William, Eliza and Richard were born 3) when they emigrated to Canada? Any help on these SOMERS would be greatly appreciated. Best regards Susan Morley e-mail: 71102@1014@compuserve.com

Greetings from an ancestor hunter in Canada: I am searching for the siblings and ancestors of William HUMPHREYS b. 20 June 1850 at Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland. His father was Thomas Humphreys who was murdered prior to William's emigration in 1866 to Ontario, Canada. His mother was Margaret McDONOUGH, b. 18 March 1823/26 in Ireland. She remarried James STEWART, presumably in Ireland. They then emigrated together in 1866. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Hey! Found this great site! http://www.inGeneas.com/ As the article starts: "We are a diligent team of accomplished genealogy professionals based in Canada's capital city. And we want you to take advantage of our experience through our searchable databases and research services. When it comes to genealogy in Canada, we are the experts in Canadian passenger lists and immigration documents." You will find that it says passenger lists from 1865. Don't be fooled, found some REA's from 1823. Of course there was nothing for me ...... need 1818. This is FREE and a wonderful site if you had ancestors that went to or settled in Canada. Happy hunting! Mary McG in Tennessee

I have just learned that the SNODDEN or SNOWDEN members of my family came from possibly County Cavan Ireland. John SNODDEN was born in 1830 and may have had a brother Alexander (b. abt. 1838) and more unknown siblings. John marred Margaret Gorley from Fermanah County, Ireland. I am trying to find out who John's parents were and if he had other siblings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. G'day, Bill I noticed in the FERMANAGH-L you are Veitch-ing. >Hi: My father was born in Enniskillen on June 24,1902. His father's >name was William Veitch and his mother's was Letitia Veitch(nee >Latimer). They were from Drumcullion. >As far as I know I have no relatives but it would be interesting to find >out a little more about the family history. Is there a place I can >contact to get this type of info. I cannot directly help you with your query, but I have a 'live' Veitch attached to a branch of my family. She is Joy Veitch (b 1948 at the Erne Hospital, Enniskillen), who married one of my second cousins, George Stephenson. I believe they live somewhere at Bellalaneck, Co.Fermanagh, although I have not yet made contact with them. I guess that address should be sufficient for a letter to reach them. I see you are also Latimer-ing. My Latimers are from Knockninny, Co.Fermanagh (a couple of miles from Bellalaneck along the western shore of Upper Lough Erne). Is Drumcullion anywhere near Knockninny (sorry, I cannot find it on my map)? ooRoo from the Land Down Under David Evans
It has been a while since my last posting and I thought I would take a chance that someone may have information on my ggggrandfather, William MOORE or his father James MOORE. I am descended through Samual Asbury MOORE below. I am hoping that someone can help me to identify any specifics about William's parents, siblings, or even the ship that William came from Ireland on or the PA.USA port of arrival. Thank you for any help you can provide. James Moore -> William Moore (b.1752,d.1836,m.Elizabeth Benford 1791) PROGENITOR - left Ireland for PA,USA Abt. 1790) -- -> Catherine Moore (b. Nov. 1,1816 in Circleville, Pickaway,OH,USA,d.Oct. 3,1902 in Circleville, Pickaway,OH,USA,m.Harriet Maria Doane 1843) the rest of the Circleville MOOREs are available on my little site at http://www.davemoore.com/moore.htm if you'd like to check them out. Here is the information I have on William MOORE. Please look it over and let me know what you think you may have any connections. William Moore Names and dates were witnessed personally by Geoffrey Loren Pace while studying the Moore Family Bible in the late 1970s or early 1980s and updated with facts unearthed from David McClelland Moore. Circleville Herald, April 1, 1837: The obituary had this to say about William Moore: "Died - - in this town (Circleville, OH, Pickaway Cnty) on the 26th Oct. (sic) Mr. William Moore, a native of Ireland, aged 75 years. Mr. Moore was one of the first settlers of Circleville. He led a peaceful, inoffensive life, and at a good old age has been gathered to his fathers. Peace to his ashes!" Some background information on Moore's hometown in Inniskillen, Fermanuagh (Fermanagh) Co., Ireland: Enniskillen comes from Inis Ceithleanon, "Crooked Tooth", wife of Balor of the Stout Blows, mother of 12 white-mouthed sons. She and husband were leaders of a piratical people, the Formorians, who held territory in Fermanaugh, early in second millennium BC. For further information on the Moore line, there are four Methodist churches in Enniskillen. Write to the Methodist Church on Darling Street. This may have been the church that wrote him a letter of recommendation to take with him when he immigrated to America about 1791, when he was about 29 years of age. This may have been the Free Methodist Society's meeting house at that time. It was not allowed back then for them to call themselves a church. (According to his great-great-grandson, Howard B. Moore II, William left Pennykillen, Fermanaugh county, Ireland in 1791. On way to Circleville,OH he married Elizabeth Benford in PA.)
Dear John, thanks for your response. Probably no connection because Thomas Sproul 1836-living 1885 was son of Thomas and Rebecca [or Margaret?] Brown and I can't go back any further yet. I think they came from Drumcard Fermanaugh based on naturalization records but no proof yet. Hello, This is my first post to the list. I am researching my pateranl familly tree, the surname being GLENN. My great grandfather, Thomas Glenn, emigrated from Co. Fermanagh, Ireland in the 1840's (??) and settled in Hibbert Twsp, Perth County, Ontario, Canada. Thomas married Isabella Roney, reportedly from Co. Leitrim, in 1859. The marriage record indicates that Thomas' parents were William and Christina Glenn, and I cannot find them in Canada. Another Glenn family lived on the adjacent farmland. John Glenn and his wife Jane Stewart. A regional history book states that John and Jane were born abt. 1810 in the "town of Wicklow, County Fermanagh, Belleek Parish." They came to Canada in 1840 with three children, Ann, Margaret, and William. I have looked on the web sites for Ireland and cannot find a "town of Wicklow" in Fermanagh. Is there a feasable alternative? Any GLENN connections would be appreciated. Best regards, Penny E Parker a-mail: pparker@compusmart.ab.ca
