    1. Fermanagh Story
    2. This isn't the first request asking the person that is looking up info in the Fermanagh Story to do it again! Could you help me, please? We have searched for years on info on my grandmother and just now seem to be making some progress. Her name is Sarah Stephenson, born Jan. 27,1886 in Ederney, near Irvinestown in Fermanagh at Dernaserk or maybe Derrynaserk. Her mother was Eliza Anne Stephenson - her father was unamed. Eliza's father could have been Thomas Stephenson and her mother could have been Margaret Slevin. Sarah came to Boston when she was a young girl, around 8, with her aunt, a Ms. M'Whinney. Sarah is on the census as living with her husband, LeRoy Patchin, in Newton City, Mass. I'd love some help with this. Thank you - JstPlnBeky@aol.com

    3. Hi Carol: First try www.amazon.com and then www.barnesnoble.com and see if they have access to it. If not, I would try Kenny's Bookstore in Galway at www.kennys.ie/ and fred Hanna's in Dublin at www.hannas.ie/ Check the list at both stores and if not found, write a note to Fred Hanna and to Des Kenny....they will answer you right away and let you know if it can be found. I know it has been out of print, but usually someone can find it. You will find it expensive, but it is well worth it to have it in your library....especially since you are a McGuire!! ;-0 It has a lot of "our" history!! Good luck...I am sure you will find a copy. You might also want to check with Waterhouse...they are international book dealers..check the yellow pages Maureen Maloney At 07:12 PM 1/1/99 -0500, Mymistiblu@aol.com wrote: >I am a descendant of the McGuire family and I would love to purchase a copy of >this book.......if you could help in any way I would appreciate it >Thanks in advance Carol > >

    3. Looking for Judy Bogusky (I think that's the name) who wanted info on McCaffrey's. Sorry, Judy, one of those things that happens to computer users once in a while just happened! I completely lost your message and name/address, don't know how but I did. If you can contact me again there is considerable info on the McCaffrey family, they are listed as the sixth most common family in Fermanagh today.

    3. Derrygonnelly..... I have a photocopy of an article, "The Village on the Sillies", sent by a friend in Western Australia. The article is pp20-37 from a book (and here I begin to rely on a semi-legible pencilled annotation on the photocopy...) entitled "GLIMPSES OF OLD DERRYGONNELLY" by William K ????ke?. I would assume this was William K PARKE , who wrote "THE PARISH OF INISHMACSAINT" (published 1982, The Select Vestry, Parish of Inishmacsaint; printed by Graham and Sons (Printers) Ltd., Gorlin Road, Omagh, Co. Tyrone): very interesting reading, lots of good information (with the occassional factual error). If anyone knows where there is a full copy of "GLIMPSES OF OLD DERRYGONNELLY" I would appreciate knowing ross beattie sunny sydney (though showers are forecast - would have to be since the Fifth Test Match in the current Ashes cricket series between England and Australia is due to start here in 3h 36m) > ---------- > From: Caiside@aol.com[SMTP:Caiside@aol.com] > Sent: Saturday, 2 January 1999 3:56 > To: FERMANAGH-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Belcoo area, Co Fermanagh > > Ok Shamrockers and Fermanaghites, here's my look-up offer: > > If anyone has family from the Belcoo area, they may be interested in the > book > "If Only: Historical Sketches of the Belcoo Area" published by the Belcoo > & > District Historical Society. There are a couple of brief references to individual Corrigans, e.g. an Andrew Corrigan, also a Thomas Corrigan listed along with some 48 others as being Nationalist spokesmen arrested in 1922. There is also a paragraph on the Corrigan family. It lists the Corrigans as being number 25 in rank of Fermanagh families having some 173 voters in Fermanagh at time of writing, 1969.

    2. Ok Shamrockers and Fermanaghites, here's my look-up offer: If anyone has family from the Belcoo area, they may be interested in the book "If Only: Historical Sketches of the Belcoo Area" published by the Belcoo & District Historical Society. I bought mine from the Tourist Office in Enniskillen several years ago. It is a very rich history of the area, including maps, school photos, and lots of narratives from old folks remembering.... If anyone wants a look-up in its index email me privately. But you must have a SPECIFIC name, not "all the McGowans" . There are also references to townlands in the index, so if you know the townland you could ask about that. Now if there was only a book like this for the Derrygonnelly area...<sigh> Janet

The family name info this book contains is mostly of general bios of each of the Fermanagh names, (both original and British), and references to individuals when their names appear in accounts of particular incidents. Unless you are researching one of the big planter families, you probably will not find info on your actual line--then again, some people will be lucky! But you might want to consider getting it anyway. Even though it is a rather rambling hodgepodge sort of book, it has lots of history of the area and is valuable mainly for that. It will fill in your background knowledge about the county. If your family came from Fermanagh you should have it in your collection. Janet C-S
