I have, with much appreciated help, narrowed down the search for the origins of my family in Fermanagh, to that of tenants on 17C estates. Now I am trying to discover the Townlands on which these estates were located. Does anyone have this information or know where I could find it? The estates were... Hi Does anyone have access to Burke's Visitation (1852-55) 2nd Series II where I believe there is a reference to the Clonelly Estate, ancestral home of one branch of the Fermanagh Bartons. The source reference also mentioned 1855, 169 - don't know if this is a page number of item no. Anyone else interested in the Bartons of Clonelly are welcome to mail me as I have quite a bit of info including certificates, photos of gravestones etc - especially for the Bartons/Irvines/Houstons who emigrated to NSW Australia. Thanks Jan Hart janhart@webleicester.co.uk
Someone stated that the people mentioned in this book were usually the prominent ones-(ex. Archdale ). My ggrand father was what we might call the foreman of the Archdale estate possibly in the 1870's-1880's. His name was Hugh LONGIN-could someone see if that name appears in the book. TIA----Jean

I am looking for any info. on my Great-grandfather James Callahan b. 1874 and he died in Boston in 1941. I only know that he was from Fermanagh and that his parents were James and Mary Cauly. Since this name is not usually associated with that area I had hoped to be able to find info. Not so I soon learned. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. And could the nice person with the Fermanagh book please do a look-up for me as well. Lisa
Hello, Just curious, does anyone know how many persons are subscribed to this list. How would one find out how many subscribers are on a particular list? Thanks, Bob Rice of Lancaster Co., Pa., USA
Hi all, Could someone check to see if there is any reference to the surnames McKEOWN or McGOLDRICK in the Fermanagh Story. Thank you very much. Tony Woodcock in Okotoks, Alberta
Hi all, Could someone check to see if there are any Donnellys or McQuades in the Fermanagh Story. Thank you so much! Kathleen in sunny, but cold, Katonah, NY
Hi! All Have reference to Sophia WARNOCK of Fivemiletown Co Tyrone supplying data for a WARNOCK genealogy 1930. I am sending to this list due to Fivemiletown's proximity to the Fermanagh border plus I have located WARNOCKs Tempo and surrounds. Would greatly appreciate information on the above Sophia WARNOCK. Or any WARNOCKs in Fermanagh. The vast majority of WARNOCK family seem to be Plantation stock but there is also evidence that suggests that WARNOCKs were in Ireland in ancient times. Ancestors of Rod Warnock: My Warnocks come from near the border of County Tyrone and CoFermanagh in Ireland. The following summary bridges the time when they moved to Australia: HUGH WARNOCK (1835-1901) #52 Born 10 June 1835 At Sloughan Co Fermanagh Ireland. One brother John Warnock #53 remained in Ireland .From M K Warnocks diary Staughan Co Fermanagh Ireland however Linda Meehan feels this should read Sloughan. Death Certificate states born Knockmore Co Fermanagh. Possibly Knockmore may have been the name of the Warnock farm? A baker by trade left London England on the ship "Dover Castle" 1002 tons Master John M Ayles for Melbourne Australia 5 November 1861 arriving Melbourne early 1862. Hugh's age stated as 26 years on departure documents. Worked as a baker in Melbourne prior to travelling to Sydney then to Cassilis NSW. Then he moved to Calcumba near Narrabri NSW then to The Bree Station between Walgett and Brewarrina NSW. He left The Bree Station to meet his wife Anne and only surviving son Hugh Alexander (another son Thomas Francis 1862-1863 died in Co Tyrone) who arrived in Sydney 27 September 1865. They spent the remainder of their lives in the Coonabarabran district. Hugh had one brother John Warnock who lived in Ireland and married a Maguire see later in this note. Source for this material The Diary of Michael Keenan Warnock (1893-1963) #62 (my father) minor changes include date of arrival in Australia and Sloughan as suggested above. ANNE WARNOCK NEE KEENAN (1830?-1905) #54 Born in Fivemiletown County Tyrone Ireland about 1830. Anne arrived in Australia at Sydney on the ship "Wallasea" September 27 1865 having left Plymouth England on May 30 1865. (MKW diary has" Wall of Sea" and 1829 year of birth calculated from date of Anne's death which MKW was in error by one year). Anne lived with Hugh until his death in 1901 and then at Trillick, Bugaldi with her son Hugh Alexander Warnock and his family until her death on February 3 1905 at Bugaldi and was buried February 4 1905. Anne's death Certificate states her parents as Hugh Thomas KEENAN and Mary MAGUIRE. On the "Wallasea" shipping lists her parents are Thos. & Margaret KEENAN of Five Mile Town, Co. Tyrone, Ireland. MKW Diary shows her parents as Thomas KEENAN & Mollie MAGUIRE. The year of birth poses a problem also 75 years at death places a birth at 1830? Yet her age in the "Wallasea" lists reads 30 which suggests a birth at 1835. >From MKW Diary: "She had two brothers , Patrick KEENAN, a storekeeper in Five Mile Town, and Thomas KEENAN, a hotel keeper also in Five Mile Town. She had four sisters - Mary, Jane, Margaret and Ellen Keenan. She had cousins named McKENNA, McALEER, MAGUIRE, NANN (could be NAWN), McCAFFREY and KEENAN. HUGH ALEXANDER WARNOCK (1860-1921) #55 Born July 14 1860 Trillick, County Tyrone Ireland and arrived in Australia aged 5 years (stated on shipping list which supports the above birth year) with his mother Anne Warnock on the "Wallasea". JOHN WARNOCK #53 Alexander and Mary had another son John Warnock #53 married Anne Maguire #2504. John was a brother of Hugh Warnock (1835-1901) and at this stage is presumed to have been born at Sloughan Co Fermanagh and remained in Ireland and had five sons. This data on John Warnock is only of verbal stories handed down. The brief family tree prior to Hugh #54 and John #53 is as follows: Hugh Warnock #48 married a Maguire they had a son Alexander Warnock #50 who married Mary Murphy #51. Hugh #52 and John #53 are the sons of this union. The following is what data I have on John WANOCK #53 7 Jan 1999 Family Group Sheet Husband: John WARNOCK #53 Born: in: SLOUGHAN,CO.FERMANAGH,IRELAND Father: Alexander WARNOCK #50 Mother: Mary MURPHY #51 John WARNOCK had five sons and was sole brother of Hugh WARNOCK. Sandi... This book has been reprinted a number of times and they never seem to be able to keep it in stock... You can depend of fred Hanna..they are excellent...I have purchased books from them in the past. You should check the internet for a copy of the book...you just may find one. Did you try Kenny's in Galway? I believe you would have a hard time trying to find a copy in the US....I bought by copy about four years ago and at that time it was very difficult to find. I just hope that the published prints more copies this time. Good luck on your search.... "The estate records of Lord Brookeborough whose family owned most of the land in and near Brookeborough in the 18th and 19th centuries were searched and extracts made of leases mentioning ARMSTRONGS. This material proved to be of considerable help in establishing the history of the family prior to James, the Coroner, as many of the leases noted were taken out for a term of three lives. This system of leasing was of benefit to the lessee, who on payment of a small fine was permitted to insert a new 'life' in his lease. He, therefore, held his land at the original rent for so long as the 'lives' or renewed 'lives' were in being. The ages mentioned in connection with 'lives' were approximate and those so named were children of the lessee, or of those of his relatives or neighbours." The PRONI reference at the time of writing this (early 1960's) was d.998/19 P.R.O.N.I. Therefore to take one or two of my transcriptions and interpret it:- 1. Name of place where lease was taken out - AGHAVOORY Name of Lessee - JOHN ARMSTRONG. Date Lease was taken out - 1st May, 1787. John ARMSTRONG's age at time of taking out lease was 35, so an approximate date of birth could be deduced as 1752 John Armstrong had only one son in 1787 his name was James ARMSTRONG and he was aged 8 so his approximate date of birth could be deduced as 1779. 2. Name of place where lease was taken out - Aghnacloy. Names of Lessees, John & William Armstrong. Date Lease was taken out - 1st May 1774. The above John Armstrong had two sons (being the first and second born) Thomas, aged 14 (which would make approx. year of birth 1760) and George, aged 12 (approx year of birth 1762). The above William Armstrong's eldest son was named Thomas, he was aged 11 (which would make his year of birth 1763) I do hope this helps to interpret the transcriptions for you, if anyone else has ideas on how these notes can be utilised I would be interested to hear from you. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this system still exhisted ( I am not speaking as a landlord now!), just imagine being able to rent a property and your grandchildren some 50 years down the track be able to still pay the same rent!:) Wow!
