    2. Hi, I also want to post and let everyone with a Stewart connection to know that while in Dublin I had copies of all Stewart's BDM's from 1864- 1900 for the Ballyshannon Union, this includes the Belleck area. Will do lookups but give me time they are in no order right now. Thanks Barbara

    1. "Sweeper" JOHN ARMSTRONG
    2. margot jorgensen
    3. Hi List, I have just found the baptism of my ancestor, JOHNSTON ARMSTRONG bapt. 1816, Lisrace, Clones, Co. Monaghan and his siblings as well as the death of their father, MAXWELL ARMSTRONG, husband of ELIZABETH MOORE, d. of Capt. JAMES MOORE on a film, but could not find the marriage. My information is that MAXWELL A's parents were "Sweeper" JOHN ARMSTRONG b. ca. 1750, Co. Fermanagh, and ELIZABETH MAXWELL (BUCHANAN ?), d. of Capt. (JAMES ?) BUCHANAN of Craigavern and Dromakill in Scotland, and that they were married in Thorneybank, Scotland, ca. 1770, their children, IRWIN, RUTH, MAXWELL, and BESSIAN. IRWIN ARMSTRONG is said to have married MARY ELIZABETH ARMSTRONG, d. of JOHN ARMSTRONG Esq. Lieutenant of the Royal Irish Artillery, Fermanagh in 1794. Sorry for the long listing, but some of the above leads me to wonder whether I should now be looking in Co. Fermanagh for my ancestor, MAXWELL ARMSTRONG's birth ? Is anyone researching, or descending from the above family ? Most of the generation born in Co Monaghan subsequently emigrated to Blanchard Township, Perth County, Ontario, Canada in the 1830-40's. Thanks for reading this ! Margot - Courtenay B. C. Canada

    2. Ken Crooke
    3. Greetings Listers: I am researching the above name ("e" ending most common in Fermanagh area). The name shows up in Enniskillen and parishes of Devonish and Innishmacsaint in the 1820s & '30s. A Wm. Crooke of Silverhill (a townland ??) died about 1840 and left children Wm. Jr., Edward, Anne Jane; George Alexander and Henry - all under 20 yrs. Thought to have been raised by a George Crooke (an uncle ??) Any ideas are welcome esp. with reference to web sites I might check. Many thanks in advance.

    2. william flanagan
    3. I offer what informaton that I have to help those who may not have access, either time or distance problems, but still want to research their heritage. When I started out a few years ago, I faced the same situation. I was very fortunate to meet a person who set me on my ways and here I am. I do not know if it is against Rootsweb policy to endorse any one product, but here goes anyhow. I use Family Tree Maker Program for my files and reference. why; Once you get the program up and running and have loaded your basic informaton, you can access all the CD's that they produce , from your own home. FROM YOUR OWN HOME. It costs. But by the time you add up high cost gasoline, babysiters, ect to travel to a place with limited hours for your use. It is a bargan. When I mention a CD , like #11, Griffiths Valiation of Ireland wher Fermanagh was completed in 1862,two years prior to it being published. if you are subscribed to their program, just punch in CD 1`88 and you have access to the same informaton on the disk. Is it worth it ?? EXAMPLE' You have a townland name. Thats all you got. With CD 188, you enter that townland in the space provided and it will tell you, the county, the Parish, all the people that lived there in 1862 if they were renters or owners. Another CD is about Irish immigrants.. It gaives a manifest number for each ship and will list everyone on that ship to see who sailed with your ancestors. No more travel time to be scheduled, and it is on teh web 24 hours a day, no matter where we live in the world. The basic program is 29.95. includes their three disk index of everything that they have produced. Make sure you get the latest version, 8.0

    3. Hello All, I have had the privilege of having a look at Jane's new website and she has obviously put a great deal of effort into it - a real labour of love. I found it to be extremely helpful for individuals like myself who, when I became interested in genealogy didn't have a great deal of knowledge regarding Griffiths Valuation, Tithes, Flaxgrowers Lists, Leases etc.... Jane posted quite a number of mailings explaining exactly what these were and also posted other items of interest regarding the 4 Courts Fires, History of the different churches....that I opened up a special 'Jane Lyons' Folder on my computer. I have posted a large amount of gravestone inscriptions on the Down and Scotch-Irish lists from Vols 12, 13, 17 which takes in Bangor, Newtownards, Portaferry and the Ards Peninsula, also some from Christchurch, Derriaghy, Co. Antrim and I would have no hesitation in forwarding these to Jane as she is a genuine and helpful person and the amount of her Irish historical knowledge is immense. Just wanted to allay any fears or suspicions that some may have felt with the wording of her email for gravestone inscription requests and hopefully we can all contribute a little something to Jane's website which must have taken an awful lot of personal time and effort on her part. Wishing Jane all the best of luck with this website and hope that you all find it as helpful and informative as I did. Also the best of luck to all of you out there who are continually searching for those elusive ancestors. Sharon :>))))) Bangor Co. Down.

    1. MONAGHAN NORTHERN STANDARD 17TH FEBRUARY 1849
    2. I have just come across extracts from the above paper, basically I have got it because it reports the inquest of my gg uncle having been shot by the Excise Police on the 8th February 1849 and where the Officer in charge Martin Culleman and officer Peter Cornlan were committed to Gaol by the Coroner G. Armstrong, for killing with no sufficient reason. However, what might interest some listers is the Report on the Poor Law Unions at that date and the unbelievable poverty that existed at that time. For anyone who knows the area and the small size of places like Rosslea and Aughdrumsee it will be absolutely horrifying. CLONES UNION In the house last Board Day 15th February 1849 1350 Since admitted 24 Born 0 Total 1384 Discharged 61 Died 9 Remaining 1314 Clones 226 St Tierney 80 Newbliss 90 Currin 210 Drumully 131 Newtownbutler 183 Aughdrumsee 69 Rosslea 121 Union at large 200 Average cost for a pauper per week 1s.1/2d Castleblaney had 1509 inclucing one new born baby 203 in sick & lunatic asylum and 29 in fever hospital. Cootehill had on 10th February 2514 since admitted 90 Born 1 Total 2606 Discharged 79 Died 126 Remaining 2401 It gives me the shivers thinking that 126 people died in the space of one week and that there were such a huge number of people from a relatively small place like Cootehill reduced to such a state by the wretched famine. There is also a report of 14 cases of cholera arising in the previous week quote..'.The Board of Guardians have agreed to supply those attacked with physic and coffins, but they could not agree to furnish the patients with what they equally require, a little nutrient, during their battle for life. The principal food of the suffering class is turnips and in the cases under treatment they have nothing but cold water or maybe a little buttermilk. Physic is a good thing it its way but it will not in itself cure a patient . As yet there has been no hospital accommodation procurred.' The disease has as yet been confined to the most wretched part of the population who live in miserable hovels at a place called Pound Hill. Reading these articles has certainly brought home to me that the land of my birth went through some horrenduous times the great divide there was between the 'have' and havenots' . Maureen

If you type in Colebrooke estate, you'll get a number of links. The first on gives you a list of things for the Colebrooke collection, and a description. To actually see the papers, however, you'll have to visit PRONI, or hire a researcher to do so. Papers often include rent rolls which list tenants by name. However, by the 1890s, many tenants had purchased their farms. Good luck, Janet C-S

    3. Hi Bonnie you could start by mailing Enniskillen library for the 1901 census. They will send you a list of all the Kirkpatricks including the Townland and Civil Parish. When you get the list choose which ones could be yours and they will then send copies of the actual census form. They are very helpful and quick to respond. You must remember to give them your full postal address as they send everything snail mail. www.eknlib.demon.co.uk library web site Wendy (uk) Subject: Re: DRUMMERON > Hi.. 3. The surname is KILPATRICK The marriage was between James Kilpatrick & Eliza Ellen Tumath 10/6/1891 at St Ninnidh Church Benmore Parish of Innishmacsaint. James was a gardener and his Father John was a cutter. (so far I have only come across farmers so does anyone know what a 'cutter' would be) I have mailed Enniskillen Town Hall and will send for a certificate when I get a reply. Do you know if they hand write a copy or if the original is photocopied. If it is photocopied I could then check the spelling of Drummeron as some listers have suggested it could be Drumaran and I have found one in Cleenish and one in Devenish. thanks for you help Wendy (uk) ----- Original Message ----- From: Barber Bill-CARV22 <[email protected]> To: Keith Backhouse <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 31, 2001 4:01 AM Subject: RE: DRUMMERON > Wendy, > > What is the SURNAME you have the Marriage Record for in Benmore, Parish of Inishmacsaint? 3. Hi.. I am coming in on the back side of this conversation, so to speak, and just had to put in my 2cents worth.. I have been researching the KiRkpatrick family from Co Fermangh, so far I have found references to Fintona(which I believe is in Co Tyrone); simply Co Fermanagh, and Think I have the family(some of them anyway) registered for baptism in Donacavey Church of Ireland registers. The one person I have had contact with is a 93 yr old distant cousin who lives in Lisnaskea now. She says her father(and perhaps grandfather) were born in Drumhack, which according the information I found on the internet, is a Townland in the Parish of Aghalurcher, Co of Fermanagh. All of these I understand are quite close in proximity. Not being a good geography student, and knowing next to nothing about Ireland, I decided to put in here that there is the name James in this family. Some of the other names common are William, John, Robert and Thomas, which are likely prevalent in a lot of the familys of that area.. If this rings a bell with anyone, I would love to hear from them. I am trying to put this family tree together, and having just begun to dent the surface, have not a lot of solid evidence. I do have some names and dates that are pretty solid, so will be more than happy to compare notes with anyone thinking there just might be some connection. Also, if there is anyone out there that would like to set me straight on anything I stated above.. have at it!! As I said, I am certainly NOT an expert on any of this.. Have a great day, everyone.. 3. In my review of the 1862 Griffiths Valuation for Fermanagh, I note the following DUFFY listing: Callagheen Townland, Property 6, Denis DUFFY, Patrick Dundas, House, Office, Land, 26 acres Callagheen Townland, Property 2 & 3, Denis McBrien... Interesting similarity in spelling Denis. Probably the ennumerator's spelling. Also wonder if the naming of Denis DUFFY was influence by several earlier generations of Denis McBRIENs at Callagheen and Ardees. It is not clear if Denis Duffy was a part owner of the property or was a farm servant. Denis McBRIEN of Callagheen was my Great Grandfather. There were NO DUFFEY listings in Fermanagh on the Griffiths Valuation CD!
