First, I'd like to thank those people who have contacted me re my gravestone query and I will get back to you. My computer crashed and had to go to the technicians and once I got it back I had begun to work on something which is taking a lot of time. My web site began so that I could show those who had expressed an interest in a journal which I proposed publishing what I would have in the journal. However, the whole concept of the web site has now changed. Four or five years ago, I became very interested in surnames and placenames. I am not researching my own family but it was the thought of where the names were found in a county and the fact that the spellings can be different from county to county and even when we go to the General Registrar's Office we can see the way a name was spelled a hundred years ago in one part of the country being spelled differently in another part - phonetics.....and then over time, we see the name reaching a stage where it has one spelling. You can track people through the birth, marriage and death records - follow the naem through the country - see connections between one county and another. Then, when you look at the literature - you can find names in one part of the country at one time and then in another another time - moving about.I have been working with names and sorting them since that time, using anything and everything I can get my hands on or that I transcribe. My web site has now become or is becoming somwhere that I can show you what information I have and the source I got it from. I am focusing on Graveyards, Journals, and names - surname distribution I have begun to load some names to my web site - approximately 1000 for Cavan, Carlow, Laois, Monaghan, Limerick and Kilkenny so far. I give a list of names and a year and on the page I list the references I have used to present my lists of names. in some instances I have not given the full and proper reference because I have not got it at the moment, but that will be corrected next week. It is my intention to load 1000 names and references for each county over the next while, it's not the finding of the names that is a problem for me, it is the time it takes to create each page. My pages are not necessarily perfect - but I have only just begun to learn how to create web pages. The Carlow list of surnames was the first I created, in time I will go back and change the format on that one - once I have finished every county. I hope to have that done within two weeks, after that - I will begin on placenames and then after that adding another 1000 names to each list. If you read my objectives page then that will tell you what i want to do with the web site. www.from-ireland.net Jane
from www.ufomag.com MYSTERIOUS FIREBALL CAUSES A STIR IN NORTHERN IRELAND "A full-scale emergency to search for a crashed plane was launched" on Tuesday night, February 13, 2001, off the coast of Northern Ireland. "Troops and RUC (Royal Ulster Constabulary--J.T.) joined ambulance crews and RAF helicopters after two people were reported dead in a light aircraft accident." "They rushed to the scene at a remote mountain near Kinawley," Northern Ireland, "on the Fermanagh border." "Hospital staff at Enniskillen were at emergency standby." "The emergency was called off late (Tuesday) night after four hours." "A schoolboy is believed to have reported seeing fire and heavy smoke after he said a plane hit the mountain." "St. Angelo Airport at Enniskillen said all its planes had been accounted for." "The ambulance spokesman said, 'A light aircraft was seen falling from the sky. We immediately sent two ambulances and the other emergency services were also there. We were led to believe there were two people aboard the aircraft.'" "Later the spokesman said th! ey! had used heat-heat-seeking equi pment to scan the area but had found nothing. He added, 'Well, at the moment, it would be fair to say it looks like a hoax,'" "The (supposed) crash site was just a few miles from where rally champion Bertie Fisher's helicopter went down last month," i.e. in January 2001. (See the Daily Mirror for February 15, 2001, "Plane crash emergency 'hoax.'" Many thanks to Gerry Lovell for this newspaper article.)

From Annals of Ulster, 749 A.D.; "Ships with their crews were seen in the air over Clonmacnoise." Here's another......... An interesting note in the DUGAN pedigree; Number 70 on this pedigree was Mogh Ruith, (Magus Rotoe) a famous Druid so named from his having made a wheel, the "Ruitha-Ramhar", by means of which he was able to ascend into the air, in presence of an astonished multitude. Do any of our Fermanagh residents know anything about a supposed crash of a flying object- a "top secret" blackbird spyplane or other vehicle in the Kinawley area moutains of Fermanagh? The govt. is calling it a hoax, but anytime security is tight when the govts say it's a hoax, usually it's not! Just curious what the news is from those who live there..hope you'll forgive the off topic subject, you can reply to me directly to spare the list from the replies. Thank you! I have just heard very sad news. John Maurice Broderick Sr., the man who put together the Ireland Townland Database, (http://www.seanruad.com) and whom many of you know as "Sean Ruad" died suddenly on Saturday April 7, at his home in Arlington, Massachusetts. He made a great contribution to Irish genealogy, and he will be greatly missed. Sadly, Janet C-S

Fumbally Lane Dublin 8. Ireland 1999 price was 45 pounds Irish, for Hardback of 550 pages. For the observant ones. I slipped in an earlier message of an address of a Bookstore in Ireland. Ask if this has come out in paperback. It will cost less to buy and to ship. Tell them Bud sent you. :)-

hi Bud and the rest of the list, I too use the Family tree maker but I would like to add this word of caution about their Griffith Valuation CD. I have photocopies of the original for one of my ancestors who had a house in one townland and 2 pastures rented in adjacent townlands. Problem - only two of these entries are on the FTM CD! They completely left out one of his entries. I tired different spellings for his name incase it had been entered wrongly but no luck. I have since learned of another person in my local Family history centre who has had the same problem. I guess when it comes to a CD that has been copied from another source it is wise to check the original source. The same is of course true for any other records that have been transcribed - mistakes do happen. Havign said all that I'm all for as much information online as possible as it isn't that easy getting to places all the time. All for now HElen
Hi List, Could someone post again the website address for Jane Lyons? Thanks Sally
Does anyone know where on the internet I can find a good printable map of Ireland or Northern Ireland? Thanks in advance.. Bonnie Kirkpatrick in the Thumb of Michigan
