    1. Ancestors from Fermanagh, playing hide and go seek....
    2. Billie
    3. Hi, I was wondering how I would go about finding where my ancestors were from? So far I only have tidbits of information and no sources, all the information I have is what has been passed down, I have no documentation that I can find. My ancestors, came from Co. Fermanagh, Ireland, around 1842 (after the marriage of my 3rd gr. grandparents), went to Canada, the eldest, my 4th grt. grandparents, only stayed in Ontario Canada for 3 yrs. before moving to Ohio, USA. The Son (my 3rd grt. grandfather) stayed in Canada to produce 11 children, before following his father, to Ohio, where it seems the majority of their descendants stayed. Now I can trace them to backwards to Canada, but after that I cannot find anything, not even a townland (?) or parish (?) or anything inside Fermanagh. I cannot find where my 3rd grt. grandparents married, or lived. I do have birthdates, for nearly everyone even 3rd. grt. grandfathers siblings. The last name of my forefathers is Jordan, the farthest back! I have is Andrew Jordan being born in 1797, Andrew Jordan married Sarah Catherine Steward/t, they had 9 children. Charles Andrew Jordan (first child or Andrew and Sarah) born 1818, married Margaret Irwin/Irvin (sp) about 1841. After they were married is when they left for Canada (on which ship I have no clue). If anyone thinks that they could give advice or think they could help, I would be greatly appreciative. :) I have been searching for nearly 2 yrs. now with no luck. Thank You for Your Time, Billie

    2. Crawford MacKeand
    3. I've been trying to make head or tail of an entry in the LDS catalog, and failed, so I wonder if anyone can help. James G. Ryan's book "Irish Records" gives SLC film numbers 100173 and 258517 for "Householders of Devenish, Kinawley and Rossorry 1766". Although it's a few years earlier than I'd like to look at, it sounds to be of possible interest. Has anyone looked at this to see what it has in it? The LDS catalog entries for the two films mentioned have many titles, the best possibility being by one Tenison Groves, but nothing confirming that Fermanagh really is there! Crawford.

    3. Linda & all Foot & Mouth Disease (FMD) has not reached Co Fermanagh, YET!!!. I hope it never does. Everyone in Northern Ireland and the Republic are very concerned that there should be no further spread of the disease. It should be pointed out that this disease does NOT have any health effect on humans (despite some rumours in the USA), only animals with cloven hooves. It can however be spread by any animal, bird or human. Restrictions of movement have been placed on all farm animals and also on the general public. Many rural tourist attractions have closed their gates, many meetings, gatherings etc., have been cancelled, all to prevent the spread of a disease which can be transmitted just like a common cold. For those who would like to delve into this matter in more detail, there are a couple of web sites that give up-to-date information: http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/northern_ireland/newsid_1282000/1282541. stm or BBC NI homepage http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/ click on various links (you can even listen to Radio Ulster - I recommend a prog called "Talk Back") http://www.dani.gov.uk/footandmouth/index.htm Official Government Dept of Agriculture website. Click on the various subjects, advice, etc. I hope this may help a few of you (I know its not genealogy!!!!) cheers Richard in Belfast (with a farm in Fermanagh) > -----Original Message----- > From: Linda Foh [SMTP:[email protected]] > Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2001 2:47 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: not exactly genealogy > > Today I read a small story in our newspaper about Northern Ireland's being > unable to keep out the hoof and mouth disease. 2. My cousin in Derrygonnelly also mentioned that there is no mail delivery to farm areas. The farmers must have to come into town to get their mail. And you know its serious when they cancel football matches!! (But I think they are back on now.) Janet C-S

    3. There have been 3 confirmed cases of FMD in Northern Ireland. One was the result of cattle which were illegilly smuggled from the UK. The source of the other two cases is unknown yet. Fermanagh has not been hit yet but the whole place has been closed down. Even easter eggs were been confiscated at the border. -----Original Message----- From: Linda Foh [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2001 2:47 AM To: [email protected] Subject: not exactly genealogy Today I read a small story in our newspaper about Northern Ireland's being unable to keep out the hoof and mouth disease. 3. Friends, I received an e-mail from a relative in the Derrygonnelly area that raise beef cattle telling me much the same information regarding a disinfectant mat that is in the lane that leads up to the farm house. She also mentioned that the mail truck no longer delivers their mail to the farms. So far, in Canada, we have been extremely fortunate that this terrible and devastating disease has not reached us "yet". My heart goes out to the people of Ireland. 3. Listers, In a March 17th letter from a cousin in Dublin regarding a mutual cousin in Co Fermanagh near Derrygonnelly "....disinfectant mats at all farm entrances, no animal movement, no unnecessary visiting to neighbours. Church services have been cancelled in the area of the outbreak and no one is permitted to spread the accumulated slurry..normally a daily task. It is a siege condition but it only takes one person to plunge the country into economic disaster...." I quoted directly from his letter so I can't say whether the slurry accumulated from the farms or from the church services. (Sorry, I couldn't resist. I know it is serious) Doug Fletcher Canada Linda Foh wrote: > Today I read a small story in our newspaper about Northern Ireland's being unable to keep out the hoof and mouth disease.
