But if he knows about McMahons in Rathekeale, Co Limerick I hope he reads or will hear of my search for John McMahon, died before 1850, husband of Penelope O'Carrol and father of Bridget Ann and Mary (and possibly others). 2. Maureen, Do you have any further information on John Little who was previously known as Owen Beggan? The reason I ask is that my grgrgrandfather John Carrothers immigrated from Fermanagh between 1816 and 1820 and settled in Ohio. There he and a John Little, also from Ireland, filed their intent for citizenship together. So far I don't know the location in Fermanagh where my John came from but I thought that he and John Little may have immigrated together and were from the same location. Any help you could give me would be most appreciated. Regards, Pat

    3. I have a Thomas LITTLE born Enniskillen abt 1788 I have no information on his parents, He married Ann GiLMORE in Sligo town 1823 their first child born Sligo, Maria Frances LITTLE abt 1828 Somehow they ended up in Tasmania Australia where more children were born. Maria Frances must have been on Norfolk Island at some time, she is mentioned as being bethrothed to John BOURKE a convict sent to Norfolk Island and then to Tasmania. If anyone out there can shed any light on my Thomas LITTLE I would love to hear from you, and if any one can claim my Thomas LITTLE as belonging to their tree, I have a lot of info for you, and would love to add any more information Joanne Bruce

    2. For anyone who loses the thread with LITTLE/LYTTLE in the early 1800's the following may be of interest. MARY LITTLE born October 4th 1816 to JOHN LITTLE previously known as OWEN BEGGAN. A few of the Beggans changed their name to the anglacised version ie. LITTLE around about 1780. Maureen

Cheers, > Doug A.>> There is a Mary LYTLE in our family line. We don't know much about her beginnings, but her husband, Hugh Clarke, came from Fermanagh and was born in 1792, so the time is right. What we do know about Mary is that she was born in Ireland (Fermanagh is the most likely spot) and died of "milk sickness" in 1847 in Illinois. It is a long shot, but I wonder if she is the same one as yours? Linda Cole

    2. Paula, First of all it is nice for you to think that I am a professional at this game but no I am just a lister like everyone else. However, before you spend any money I would like with your permission to forward your e-mail to a man who is doing a lot of research on the McMahon name. His wife is a McMahon and he has lots and lots of information on one branch of the Corbane McMahons. He tells me there are 2 separate families. I am sure he will be delighted to help and will probably read this e-mail and either be laughing or saying 'another fine mess you have got me into'. 1. [FERMANAGH] Ontario's Fermanagh settlers
    2. Hi, Listers: This is a slow followup on our discussion of a few weeks ago. (I finally found the new web address for the great McGill University digital image project.) Shortly after the family LITTLE/LYTLE/LYTTLE/LIGHTLE and their friends emigrated 1818 from Fermanagh to what is now the Cobourg, Port Hope, Rice Lake area of Ontario, they cleared and farmed near each other, established Wesleyan Methodist churches, and later got employed in the railroad machine shops, etc. Volunteers at McGill University have scanned many Ontario 1874-1881 Atlases which are searchable by person, property location, year settled, etc. By zooming out of the map, you often find the surnames of the families the settlers' children married into! Although most of the early settlers' descendants further migrated west or north, usually some members of the family still farmed these lots in the 1870's and are in this great McGill database. For example only, the 1878 Ontario Atlas covering County Durham's Cavan and Manvers Twps., shows an Arthur Graham of Ireland settled 1818 two lots in Manvers Twp. The map shows where. This example also contains a portrait of Mr. Graham, probably made 1877 or so. Cavan is just NW of Hamilton Twp in Co Northumberland. Enjoy studying this site: << http://digital.library.mcgill.ca/CountyAtlas/default.htm >> By the way, we are STILL looking for parents of our emigrants Christopher LITTLE/LYTLE/LIGHTLE, and his sister Mary LYTLE, both born in/near Fermanagh before 1800. Cheers, Doug A.

    3. Could SKS please advise me what a "Tobernasool" is? I have just received Sheet 17 of the Ordinance Survey Discoverer Series Map and amongst words such as "Rath", "Crannog", "Motte" etc. is shown "Tobernasool". Google, Encyclopaedia Britannica etc. can't help. I am hopeful that one of our listers can. Regards, Peter dolan@pnc.com.au
