    2. Mari Viertel
    3. Hi listers I am throwing myself at the mercy of you in the hope that someone can help me make a chip in the brickwall. I have a Mary Ann SAVAGE b abt 1855 in Lisboy, daughter of Richard (?) SAVAGE. She married Samuel Binstead THOMPSON of Whitechurch (or Doneraile?), Co Cork bef 1880. They emigrated to Australia in 1880, and I am desperately trying to find their roots. Does someone have any information about Mary Ann and her family and/or is someone able to do a lookup on her birth and marriage for me? Regards Mari PS - I have subscribed to all the Fermanagh lists and will post this to all, so apologies to any of you who gets this message more than once!

My use of 'him and he' is because there were no female convicts sent to Western Australia. Best wishes, Neila Biddle Perth, Western Australia

    1. [FERMANAGH] Fermanagh prison inmates in Victoria, Australia - BARRETT & BELL
    2. Valerie/Rowan Henshaw
    3. Before I returned to being a wage-slave I used to spend much time in the Public Record Office in Melbourne. Looking through some old jottings I found these two entries in the "Victorian Prisoners Index c1850 - 1900 - males" - a series of 6 microfiche compiled by Marion Button in 1995 : Thomas BARRETT b.1832 Fermanagh 05403 515/8 per 'Mary Clarke' to Adelaide 1849 (recon. No 7960) John BELL b.1829 Fermanagh 09901 515/15 see John Joseph WOOLLF Obviously, I didn't get past the 'B's. I apologise for not having any further info, nor am I able at this stage to offer to pursue them any further. I have seen some original prison records and they offer a wealth of personal detail re appearance (e,g, visage : long; complexion : sallow) and some information on the family/next of kin. Some records even have photographs attached. I hope someone is able to make use of the above. Best wishes, Valerie in Melbourne

    2. Maureen, I think you hit the wrong button. I think you mean to have answered Rita Chesterton's query on McBarron. My people were Elliott and Forde and the Forde's left Ireland for Canada (Ontario Province) mid-1850's or so. But that's okay, I always read your stuff, because I love your little stories and your humour. Marion Wood

    2. Marion, I saw your listing on the site and as it was such an unusual name I just thought I would check in the Republic of Ireland Old Age Pension records and lo and behold it was there. However the information I gave you is all there is so the records will not help you further. The ages I gave you were as at 1851 so it would be very difficult to get birth certificates other than if you were lucky and The local church had kept baptismal records. The other way could be as you know they were aged 7, 5. and 2 in 1851 so would have married somewhere around 1864 + when civil registration of marriages were in force you might find them that way especially as you have the father's name. I would try Dublin, they are a bit slow but it could be worth it. Maureen

    3. To Janet Morgan, regarding MAGUIRE Hi Janet...have we talked before? I'm interested in the Margaret Maguire (Catholic) who married John Fitzgibbon (Protestant), probably around 1840....but don't know where. If that combination comes up in your research, I'd love to hear from you. 3. Hello Dan I have a great interest in the McBarron name and you're right. it isn't very common it seems. One whole section of this family migrated from the Enniskillen area to Australia in the 1850s and 1860s. Mary McBarron was my GGrandmother. I will contact you off list to see if our McBarrons are related, which I'm sure must be. Regards Max Carrick Sydney, Australia

    2. Dear Dan I was able to find the Enniskillen library online ( I don't have the link) and email them. They have the 1901 census apparently on CD as they sent me a printout of the surname I was looking for (as well as variations in spelling). I was able to locate my GGGrandfather in the census and when I found his townland listed I could then go through the list of all those with that surname/townland and located 3 of his children. It did take awhile as the list was mailed by snail mail but the service was free and very helpful and worth the wait. Janet Morgan Researching McDonnell and Maguire around Newtown Butler

    2. Philip E Leonard
    3. Hi Dan. Mary J wouold be on the 1901 census aged 6. but Enniskillen as the county town could mean anywhere in Fermanagh. I am not aware of any surname key to the census in Fermanagh (other than for Killesher parish extracted by a local historian) so it if not actually in Enniskilen it would take a long search to find her without a particular location to narrow it down. . There were at least 3 McBarron families in Kinawley parish around that Mary J's time.Philip E L ----- Original Message ----- From: "dan's e-mail" <333murphy@prodigy.net> To: <FERMANAGH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 07, 2002 1:50 AM Subject: [FERMANAGH] Mary J. 3. Richard, >James CHITTICK married Catherine MULDOON on 13th February 1846 >James CHITTICK married Jane FUNSTON on 9th April 1863 This marriage interests me greatly, again from a local history perspective. Five MULDOON siblings (that I know of) came to the Illawarra. They were the children of Christopher MULDOON and Ann GILBERT. Those I have details on are: John (b. c1835 FER), arr. Sydney 1856 Mary (b. c1838 Ederny, FER) m. William WEIR 14MAY1856, arr. Sydney 1857 Jane (b. c1845 FER), arr. Sydney 1863, m. Robert WILSON 1865 Ann (b. c1847 FER), arr. Sydney 1863, m. John WILSON 1865 Susan (b. c1847 FER), arr. Sydney 1874, m. Andrew WILSON 1877 Mary, Jane and Susan all died in 1918, within six months of each other. I wonder if Catherine was an elder sibling to this lot?
