Hi listers I have found out my ancestors Mary Ann SAVAGE and Samuel THOMPSON were married in the Maguire's Bridge Methodist Church in 1879. She was born in 1855 in Lisboy and he was born in 1860 in Co Cork. Samuel was a schoolmaster and so I am wondering if maybe he worked in the area. QUESTIONS: 1. does anyone know of an online map where I can find Lisboy and Maguire's Bridge? 2. does anyone have information about this Methodist Chapel ? Does it still exist? 3. How would I go about finding out where Samuel worked, if that is possible? Any help or information would be received gratefully. Regards Mari Surrey
Thank You Patrick, that's great, I will look up the Goldenpages & do as you suggest. I'mm enormously gratefull to all you wonderful members of the list, you have been so helpfull, just when I thought I'd hit a brick wall you've all given me new avenues to persue. Thank You. Hello JoAnn, I'm not sure just yet if there is a link or not, but one would think so as Swanlinbar sounds like it is not a very big town. I shall put it safely away for future reference, and thank you ever so much, all information on the Storey's is gratefully received. I'm finding the Irish side of my family difficult to research from New Zealand. Once again, Thank You. Hi Philip, Yes I would be interested in the address for the research group. I'm pretty sure they would have been Church of Ireland as Elizabeth was married in a Church of England church here in New Zealand. Thank you so much for all your help, it's most appreciated. Hi Denise: I have the book By Claddagh's Banks and its the istory of Swanlinbar and District from earliest times by Joseph McKiernan and on page 117 there is a HenryStory who lived on Main St. in the town of Swanlinbar. He rented off of Rev. Wm. R. Gresson. there is also a Robert Story on the same page and then Henry again on the next page. These records are from the second half of the last century. I dont know if these people are related to you or not The spelling is Story. Hope I helped JoAnn
Denise, If you are tracing Storey ancestors in Swanlinbar area they could be Church of Ireland. There are Kinawley C o I (includes Swanlinbar) records I understand from 1798. I presume these would be available from the Rector in Swanlinbar. They (and other denominations) are also available from a Cavan research group for a fee. I can give you the address if you are interested. Mari, There is a RICHARD SAVAGE in the Old age pension records 1851. Richard Savage aged 41 wife Mary aged 37 yrs. married in 1833 daughter Ellen aged 6 yrs. Cavancarragh. Galoon. Coole. Co Fermanagh. It is probably a long shot but if the naming patterns worked it is quite possible that they would have had a daughter Mary Ann born around 1855. The only other Savages I have found are in There is a book by Josephine Masterson Title County Cork Ireland..A Collection of 1851 census records which has the name Savage and Thompson in it so maybe be worth you getting. I think you can get it over the internet from www.genealogy.com Good hunting Maureen
Denise, There are 11 Storeys in the (04) phone area today (actually in 1997). Maybe you should write to them and see if they know of your people. I located my relatives by doing that. My relative did not have a telephone, but one of the people I wrote to drove 12 kilometers to the townland I had mentioned, found his house and gave him my letter. I can send the addresses if want them, or you can find them at http://www.goldenpages.ie/ There may be some Storeys over the border in Fermanagh too. I don't have a directory for Northern Ire. (04) covers a huge area of the Republic. Monaghan, Cavan, Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Longford, Kildare, Wicklow. Also small portions of Leitrim, Roscommon, Offaly, and Wexford. The placenames listed in the phone directories are; Co. Cavan: Belturbet (2), Annagh parish. 12 miles southeast of Swanlinbar. Killeshandra (3), Killeshandra parish. 14 mles s. southeast of Swanlinbar. Ballyconnell, Tomregan parish. 7 miles southeast of Swanlinbar. ------------ Sallins, co.Kildare. Dundalk, co. Louth. Monasterevin, co. Dunlavin, and Arklow, co. Wicklow. Patrick Traynor, tray@lanset.com TRAYNOR'S Web Page (Irish stuff) http://angelfire.com/my/tray
Thanks Philip, Both you and Pat have been most helpfull, I appreciate it. Denise, I had a spare moment and took a quick look through some of the research I have here. MARGARET STORY baker in Fermanagh Street Clones in 1870. JOHN and THOMAS STORY paying rent in Granshabeg . Clones Estate in the 1821 Rent Rolls. and finally both spellings of the name in 1841 census of Killeshandra Parish Co Cavan but the spelling STORY most common. I am trying to acquire this census but as yet have not found out where to actually get it. I believe the film no is 0100831-00100838 and that it has over 2000 household on it and that it is available on CD . If anyone can point me to it I would be grateful. Maureen
To add to this from Pat. Cornagran is immediately north of and adjoining Swanlinbar east of the Enniskillen road (the N87 in the Republic) Philip E L ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pat Traynor" <tray@lanset.com> To: <FERMANAGH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 19, 2002 5:52 PM Subject: [FERMANAGH] RE: Storey.s Of Swanlinbar > "Denise Johnson" <djohnson@inet.net.nz> wrote............. > >Hi all, > > I am new to this list & would dearly love to make contact with > >someone who can shed some light on my ancestors from Swanlinbar. > >............ Hi Bill, Did not see original message but very interested since I am from Cadden/Caden line in Cornacreeve/Bunnablaneybane townlands ( Patrick in 1862 Griffiths ) next to Follum Big. I have collected a 'few' Caden/Cadden records for other Cadden/Caden lines also which may be of interest.
