Cynthia has asked me to clarify Permelia Jane Fergus for everyone. She was the daughter of Frances Fergus and Laura Jane Wilkinson. Her birthdate is July 20, 1860 and date of death December 23, 1934. Permelia was married to Isom Cimeon Wilcoxson, October 28, 1896. Thye moved from Barren CO, KY to Harrison CO, MO shortly after marriage. They had four children, only one of whom lived to adulthood - my grandmother, Margaret Leah Wilcoxson Gorden, who married Earl Noah Gorden, my grandfather. Infant daughter November 18, 1897 Dec 22, 1897 Infant daughter February 18, 1899 Feb 19,1899 Margaret Lea August 12, 1900 March 7, 1986 Francis Willard September 22, 1903 July 3, 1910 Isom was given the nickname of "Egypt" though no one knows why. Permelia was known as "Aunt Minnie" and had a heart of gold. She was good to everyone with whom she came in contact. Always bestowing love and kindness on them, especially those who had been bereft of a mother. Her foster brother, Joseph Herron was taken into her father's (Frances) home when he was a small child. His mother had died and his father did not care for him. It was when Aunt Minnie moved up to the north part of the county (Harrison Co, MO) that Joe came with her. Aunt Minnie loved company and enticed them with a long table piled high with luscious food gleaned from her garden and poultry house. Near Christmas time in 1934, Aunt Minnie became critically ill and passed away on December 23, 1934. The death of his loved one was go great for Uncle Isom that when he developed pneumonia, he too passed away four days later. The above information was obtained from Jessie Eckerson, a relative via Joe Herron, I believe. Jessie continues to live in Eagleville, MO. There is a note also that when Grandma Fergus (I assume this means Laura Wilkinson) died, Grandpa Fergus (Francis) and Joe came to live with them in Harrison CO, MO. Laura Jane Wilkinson Fergus and Francis Fergus are buried in Dale Cemetery outside of Bethany MO. Permelia Jane Fergus Wilcoxson and Isom Cimeon Wilcoxson are buried in the Eagleville Cemetery near Eagleville MO. I do have quite a bit of information of the descendants. It is in narrative form and very convoluted. Being the mother of five teenagers (gasp) and working presently on my master's, I am trying to find time to get it organized, but intend to do that! Isn't it nice to read about Francis's generosity and Permelia's warm heart. Viva La Fergus! Lynne Gorden Howard
