Well, here's my FERGUS line as far back as it goes-- 6--Robby Scott FERGUS born: 9 September 1968, Corvallis, Oregon, USA married: 20 August 1992, Susan Denise PETERSEN 5--Gary Leon FERGUS born: 6 January 1945, Hillsboro, Oregon, USA married: 1 April 1967, Marilyn McNEAL 4--William Boyd FERGUS born: 20 March 1911, Garland, Utah, USA married: 27 June 1935, Cleone CUTLER 3--William Maughan FERGUS born: 19 November 1879, Logan, Utah, USA married: 11 April 1910, Martha Elizabeth PETERSON 2--William FERGUS born: 8 June 1855, St. Louis, Missouri, USA married: 19 December 1876, Martha Weston MAUGHAN 1--James FERGUS born? married: about 1854? Ellen (HALL) BARDSLEY Here's where we get stuck. Ellen HALL was from Manchester, England (born: 23 January 1822). She was married (8 October 1848) to William Bardsley (who later died?). Anyway, on 4 April 1854 she sailed for America with a company of Mormon converts including her mother, Sarah, and her step-father (William Walker McNaughton). They sailed on the ship Germanicus--passage was 69 days with water stops on St. George's on the Grand Caicos, and on the Dry Tortugas. The ship arrived in New Orleans 12 June 1854. On 13 June 1854 the LDS company started up the Mississippi River for St. Louis on the large sidewheeler Uncle Sam. When they arrived in St. Louis, Ellen remained with part of the company for the winter. On 8 June 1855 Ellen gives birth to William FERGUS. We know nothing about his father except he was supposedly named James FERGUS. When Ellen HALL arrived in Salt Lake City, she was supposedly a widow, and was married to Brigham Young's shoemaker--Thomas DAVIDSON. So who was this James FERGUS? We haven't been able to find any marriage records around St. Louis, including in any LDS Church branch records. All we really know for sure is that Ellen HALL knew SOMEBODY about September 1854--and she said his name was James FERGUS. Any cousins out there with more info...?
