I am looking through the FERGUS-L archives posts to compile information to search in Ireland and would like to amend some of the following information: Carrickfergus is one word which describes a city in Co Antrim (which would be the county where John FERGUS would be listed in any records). To my knowledge there was no king named Carrickfergus as carrick=rock. From "The Ordnance Survey Leisure Guide - Ireland". The powerful Norman John de Courcy chose the natural defence of a basalt promontory at Carrickfergus (the Rock of Fergus), to build his castle after 1180 and owing to its strategic importance the town developed." If anyone has researched before this time would you please post the information as I am still working on the 18th century.
