    3. Just a thought but you might look at the possibility of searching land records at the county courthouse in Carlisle. That could give you some clues if there is a McCormack family in the immediate vicinity. Also, as I understand it middle names were illegal until about 1850. I cannot remember where I read it but considering the number of ancestors without I tend to believe it. Neil "Cynthia N. I am searching for the family of Mary McCORMICK (a popular given name and no middle name that I know of). I see two possibilities but need more information. I gleaned your name either from the RootsWeb Surname List or from GenForum where you have posted. James McCormick b 1645, Londonderry Hugh b 1695 > PA ca 1735 Hugh (Jr.) b 1725, d 1777 Sarah Alcorn (wife Mary b Nov 1752****** OR the second possibility, James McCormick, b 1645 Londonderry Thomas McCormick, b 1702, Ballymartin, Co Antrim Eliza(beth) Carruth, b 1705, wife Thomas (Jr.,) b 1729, Co Antrim Jean Oliver, b 1727 Mary McCormick, b 18 Mar 1763 ******* Both of these share the same the same James McCormick, b 1645, m. Sarah Welsh. If you have information on either the family of Hugh McCormick, Jr. and/or Thomas McCormick, Jr. please contact me. And, if you would like additional information on Cyrus H. McCormick and the Huron Mountain Club (Michigan) there is an incredible 2 volume set of books titled "Superior Heartland, A Backwoods History" by C. Fred Rydholm. The Library of Congree Catalog Card Number is 89-90710, and ISBN 0-9639948-2-4 Set Vol I & II. There is an extensive account of Cyrus and his/other family member visits to the property he owned in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I understand that the book is again out of print. I do have access to the book as a friend who owns the volumes was talking about how fascinating the story is of the Huron Mountain Club. . . and that the Fords and McCormicks were central players. That caught my ear. Next I asked to borrow the books. I began to notice similarities in the placesnames that "my" Mary McCormick had lived were the same as Cyrus' background. Serendipitous or not that has led me to now again follow this McCormick thread and perhaps there will be that grand prize of another brick out of that genealogical wall. I hope so. And if any of you are also related to the surname FERGUS, I have a lot of information on this family.
