Steele, 86, of 945 South 6th St., formerly of Northbridge, Mass., died June 19 in Christian Health Center after an illness. He leaves his wife, Jessie (FERGUS) Steele; a daughter, Margaret Steele, both of Louisville; and two grandchildren. His first wife, Elizabeth (Irwin) Steele, died in 1967. Born in Northbridge's Whitinsville section, son of John and Elizabeth (Scott) Steele, he lived 18 years in Uxbridge and 31 years in Stuart, Fla., before moving to Louisville in 1989. Mr. Steele was a division superintendent at Whitin Machine Works in Whitinsville, where he worked 30 years. He retired in 1968. He was a former member of Whitinsville United Methodist Church, Solomon's Temple Lodge of Masons in Uxbridge and Middletown (Ky.) Lodge of Masons. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Pine Grove Cemetery, Whitinsville. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Whitinsville United Methodist Church, 61 Linwood Ave., Whitinsville 01588. Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville, is directing arrangements.
