    3. Hi everyone, One of the recent postings cited a large number of land records. I don't know exactly where those citations came from, but do know that the Bureau of Land Management has an extremely useful site at: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ This is an index of all eastern land grants by the government. You can search it by surname and several other ways. Amazingly, you can actually bring up an image of the original signed land grant and print it out if you like. Use the "small gif" button. The actual image of the document in many cases has much more complete information, including co-owners if any, and full correct legal description. Most go by the federal township numbering system so they should list state, township number like "township three north", range number like "range four east of the fourth principle meridian", the section numer (1-36) the legal description of the fraction of the section, like "north 1/2 southwest quarter" Theres 640 acres in a section so you can figure it from that if it doesn't state the acreage explicitly. There are many Fay land grants listed at this site. For an interesting example try running a search for Harrison Fay or his wife Isabella in All of the states.
