    3. Hi Mary, Welcome back. Hope the move went well. Linda Hogans, Tina Anderson and Linda Kaufman developed a webpage a week or two ago for Jonathon and his Michigan descendants, just click here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~faywebsite/goosehat.html How do you like it? It was really surprising because I went to Monroe on business and had offered to do a little local research in my spare time. I knew Tina was interested because of her post in February.....Linda Hogans had posted to the Fay website guestbook just a day or two before I left Wisconsin....When I got to the Monroe Historical Museum, they had all the obits since the 1790's in little envelopes on the second floor all nicely indexed. I doubt that I spent 30 minutes getting 15-20 obits. I published some of them here......I think Linda Hogans has the rest now. There must still be a lot of unresearched info at that museum on the Fays though. Did you get my note on Harrison K Fay's brother Elijah.......I think I and Barbara Degan may have found him in Burnett township, Dodge county Wisconsin from about 1837-1840, before he moved by his other brother Rice in Elgin Illinois. What do you think about that. That would make him the first settler in Burnet township.........I have quite a bit more info on the Fays in that area at that time. June 9, 1861. [Orlin P. Fay, 1898: 69-70; 418] I would really like to get better dates on the offspring of Jonathan Fay 6. This is one of the better places for Michigan Fay's to tie in to Orlin P. Fay's book. Ahnentafel for Jonathan Fay 6 [Opf # 830] [1] Jonathan FAY 6 (OPF # 840)(OPF, 1898: 39; 69-70) [2] David Fay 5 (OPF # 131)(OPF, 1898: 25; 39) [3] Patience HARVEY Fay (OPF, 1898: 39) [4] Capt. Jonathan FAY 4 (OPF # 60)(OPF, 1898: 23; 25; 114) [5] Joanna PHILLIPS Fay (OPF # 60-W1)(OPF, 1898: 25) [8] John FAY III (OPF # 25)(OPF, 1898: 21-22; 23) [9] Hannah CHILD Fay Lyscomb (OPF # 25-W1)(OPF, 1898: 23) [16] John FAY Jr (OPF #2)(OPF, 1898: 19; 21-22) [17] Elizabeth WELLINGTON Fay (OPF #2-W1)(OPF, 1898: 21-22)[Note she goes back on one line to Edward I of England] [32] John FAY Sr/1 [OPF #1](OPF, 1898: 13-15; 16; 19) [33] Mary BRIGHAM Fay (OPF # 1-W1)(OPF, 1898: 14-15; 16; 19)(WITB #3)(WITB, 1907: 54; 63-64) [34] Benjamin WELLINGTON (OPF, 1898: 21) [35] Elizabeth SWEETMAN Wellington (OPF, 1898: 21) [66] Thomas BRIGHAM Sr. [WITB #1][WITB, 1907: 33-59)(OPF, 1898: 14-15; 19) [67] Mercy HURD BRIGHAM-Rice-Hunt (WITB #1-W1)(WITB, 1907: 33; 50-54)(OPF, 1898: 14-15; 19) In the obituary cited earlier,"Old Man FAY," only two of the 16 children of Jonathan Fay seem to have outlived him: His second and third children: Austin and Francis Fay. However, some of the others may have moved away, lost contact with their family, and they may also have outlived their father. The date in the obituary matches the death date given for Jonathan Fay in Orlin P. Fay's book. We seem to have matches for Francis Fay b. 1828, [His wife Charlotte Fay is not named in OPF]. Dr. O. J. Fay is Dr. Orion Jonathan Fay 8, d. 1923. William Fay is given as William Edward Fay 8, in OPF Wilmer Fay may be the son of Austin Fay 7. [ His wife would have been Mary Butler Fay, b. 1871.] Daniel Fay b. 1865 may be the son of Francis Fay 7. Perry C. Fay may be the son of Francis Fay 7. Anna Harryman Fay is probably Anna (Harriman) Fay, wife of William Edward Fay 8, son of Francis Fay 7. [Leo F. Fay 8 is given as one of their sons, d. 1945] Austin Fay b. 1859 is probably Austin Fay Jr. 8, son of Austin Fay Sr. 7 Charles F. Fay may be the son of Francis Fay 7 Note that Enoch A. Chamberlain is a brother-in-law of many of these FAY's. What we really need is a series of the Census for Carleton and Flat Rock, Mich from 1850-1880 and 1900-1920, so that we can verify the birth dates of these families. We could also use the Census listings for the children of the FAY women who married into other surnames. As for John M. Fay's obit, I would look in the Detroit newspapers, as he was the President of Home Insurance Co. in that city. His second wife's name is not known [OPF]. Fanny SWAP Fay may be your land owner.(1818-1885, second wife of Jonathan Fay 6.) She outlived him by two years. I think that there were at least 4 FAY families in Michigan by 1820.(Census of 1820) Many FAY families moved out of New England and New York between 1830 and 1870. I would not jump to conclusions as to how many FAY families are in this area. Without the dates or the gravestone inscriptions, it will be harder to associate the rest of these people. We also need to check the Marriage Register Index for Carleton and Flat Rock, MI for verification of who married whom. Well, I hope this will help those who are working on this line. Keep me posted on what you find. Sincerely, Mary (FAY) Nelson 9 ============================== Free Web space. ANY amount. ANY subject.
