Dear Fellow Researchers, I have just been to the National Archives where I found the Military Pension Records for George Washington FAY 6, and later the one for his widow, Nancy Betsey (Robinson) Fay. In the Affidavits (legal papers with statements about people), there was one from the minister who had married them some 40 years previous to Nancy's application for a widow's pension. I also found papers from two witnesses to their marriage and several from people in Wisconsin who had known them for a long time. I also found out quite a bit about the problems of my great grandfather's health that had been acquired during the Civil War (Malaria, stomach problems, and a stroke of lightning.) I also photocopied his Military Service Records. In June of 1999, we went to Menasha and Neenah, Wisconsin, to do some research for him. We found the FAY family plot in Neenah's Oak Hill Cemetery. Adjacent to the FAY plot was a single stone for Amos Robinson Jr. and Lois Safford, his second wife. Amos Robinson Jr. was the father of Nancy Betsey (Robinson) Fay. I had not expected to find Amos Robinson Jr. in that area, although several of his sons were Civil War Veterans from Menasha and adjacent towns in Winnebago, Co, WI. I am slowly building a file for my great grandfather. I have several regimental histories of the 32nd Wisconsin Infantry. I now have his Military Pension Records and Military Service Record. I know which of my cousins has the original diploma which he received from Dartmouth College of Medicine. I have some photographs of him, his wife, and her twin sister, Betsey Nancy (Robinson) Clark. I just want to encourage you to look beyond the internet for material on your FAY ancestors. I have found out more about my great grandfather by going to the places he lived than I ever got from the History of Royalton VT by Evelyn M.
