Hi all Fay Rooters, I am a VT>CA descendant of two VT Fay's (that's right cousins married each other--maybe that's why they moved west!). FIRST--Julius Fay(7), John(6), Nathan(5), John (4), Stephen (3), John (2), John(1) Julius Fay(#7) b. Aug 23, 1825 in Williston, VT. and died in JOLIET, ILL. He married Susie Swift (b. Starksboro, VT) in 1851 in Starksboro, VT. She died Jan 4, 1856 in Greenville, OHIO They had 1.Julia Louise Fay (8) b. Feb 07, 1852 in Burlington, VT. 2. Unknown daughter b. 1856 in Greenville, OHIO ALSO--Nathan Murray Fay (7), Nathan (6), Nathan(5), John (4), Stephen(3), John (2), John(1) Nathan Murray Fay (7) b. May 8, 1819 in Richmond, Chittenden Co., VT. He married Beulah Thompson (b. May 7, 1818 in Richmond, Chittenden Co., VT.) on October 31, 1842. He died Aug 17, 1873 in Essex, VT. They had: 1.Emerson Colby Fay (8) b. Feb 6, 1844 2. Ada Fay (8) b. March 23, 1847 (Married Edgar Barber) 3. Roby Nathan Fay (8) b. March 23, 1847 (yes, folks, fraternal twins!) He died in SACRAMENTO, CA 4. Newton Murray Fay (8) b. Dec 8, 1849 in Richmond VT (died in OAKLAND, CA) I am looking for information regarding these two families. Newton Murray Fay (above) married Julia Louise Fay (above). Newton and his brother, Roby Nathan Fay came to Sacramento, CA (after the Civil War?) Newton and Julia married in 1868 in Sacramento, CA. With whom did she come? An Uncle or Aunt? At least two siblings of Julius FAY are found in CA. The children of John FAY (6) and Mary Bishop (6) who were married Sept 5, 1806 in Hinesburg, VT are: 1.Roswell Bishop Fay (8) born 1808 Rutland, VT died Aug 1905 in OAKLAND, CA (It appears that he came to CA between 1865 and 1870 or so) 2. Electa Fay (8) born Feb 24, 1811 -one of her sons died in CA 3. Roxanna Fay (8) Nov 23, 1815 in Richmond, VT. Married June 27, 1847 in VT to Corey Thomson of Jericho, VT. They both died in SACRAMENTO, CA 4. Daniel Bishop Fay(8) b. July 17, 1819 in Williston, VT 5. Ransom Fay (8) b. Aug 8, 1822 6. Julius Fay (8) SUBJECT of ABOVE-died in Joliet , ILL 7. Edith Fay (8) b. Feb 23, 1828 in Williston, VT 8. Hiram John Davis Fay (8) b. Dec.25, 1831 It appears that quite a few of this generation of FAY's moved west and some on to CA. I am gathering as much as I can on the FAY's of Northern CA. I do have some Census material on Fay. Would love to exchange information with descendants of these lines. My grandmother, Mable Fay Herndon (of Sacramento) was sent to live with FAY relatives in VT for a while as a teenager (abt 1905). Would love to know more. I am also interested in the Greenville, OHIO and Joliet, ILL connection. Are there other FAY's in those areas? Thanks in advance for any help.
