Morning all, This should be last posting for the day. I happen to have a hard copy of all the FAY entries from the index above, that I copied of the microfiche. With the info presented here, you could easily get the marriage application for the couple. As a word of warning, some of these entries have more than one name listed on the spouse side. I've not yet quite figured out what that means, but on more than a few of those entries, only one of the people was the actual spouse. I will type this it exactly as it's presented from the microfiche. No one at the library could tell me what it meant either. In case where multiple names are given on the spouse side, I will enter the info on the line immediately beneath it. This index covers the mid 1800's to the early to mid 1900's. The earlier the volume the earlier the marriage. I'll start with the female FAY's. Over this coming week as time permits, I'll get the entire index up to the list. Allow me to ask that you pardon any possible typos on my part. Morning all, Here's the Benajah FAY Jr line from the Federal Census. Lois HODGMAN was his wife. At one time, I thought Lovina listed with the family was Benajah's sister (since the age could have been 76), but on this census it lists Lovina as having attended school within the year. It looks as if Benajah FAY Jr had a daughter in addition to their other children. <Here's the start of Henry FAY info) >From 1860 Brooklyn Heights, Cuyahoga County, Ohio Federal Census Dwelling 580 Family 573 John LYONS 65 M Farmer 2000 200 NY Clarisa 54 F CT Silvia 18 F OH Henry FAY 28 M 500 50 OH NOTE: The LYONS family was living next door to the FAY family on the 1850 census. I do not know where Asa FAY was in 1860, but I've been told by other descendents of Benajah FAY that he did go out west and returned. I've not seen any proof of this, but he's apparently not in Ohio. He's listed in the infirmary on the 1870 census. >From 1870 Brooklyn Heights, Cuyahoga County, Ohio Federal Census Family 540 FAY, Florilla 54 F W Keep house 2000 300 CT , Lewis 38 M W Farmer OH , Andrew 19 M W Laborer OH , Asa 27 M W Laborer OH Infirmary FAY, Asa 69 M W Farmer NY Family 538 ROBERTS, Newell 37 M W Quarryman -- 200 OH , Roxanna 36 F W Keep house OH , Luther 15 M W At School OH , Geo. 5 M W FAY , Martin 30 M W Quarryman OH NOTE: Roxanna FAY married Newell ROBERTS. The age for this Lavina may be wrong, as it's possible it may be Benajah's sister. This Eliza FAY is probably the one living with Mabel FAY HUMPHREY's family on the 1860 census.
Morning again, See my previous email about the format and the butchering email proggies tend to do. Here's the Jeremiah Wilcox FAY family. My wife descends from Benajah F FAY through this line, through Clarence specifically. I do not have verification, but I believe her to be a third child of Benajah FAY & Rhoda EDWARDS RHODES, both of whom died in the year previous to this census. The BRADLEY's with the family at this time are siblings to Mary Ann BRADLEY FAY, the wife of Jeremiah Wilcox FAY. Morning all, Once again by request, some of the census entries I've collected on my recent trips over to the Fairview Park Library. I will tie these in, as best as I can, if I know how they tie in. This will be in no particular, aside from how it is among my misc research papers. I apologize in advance for any butchering of lines done by your email proggie. >From the 1850 Townsend Township, Huron County, Ohio Federal census Family 805 Dudley HUMPHREY 35 M Lawyer 8000 Connecticut Mabel 30 F Ohio Minah 2 F Ohio Harlow 5/12 M Ohio Lucinda BURDINE 19 New York? >From 1860 Townsend Township, Huron County, Ohio Federal Census. I do not know for certain how Harriet & James FAY fit into the family right now, but it would stand to reason they are related in some way. From records, at least two of Benajah's children relocated to Wisconsin. Eliza FAY, I believe is a child of Benajah FAY, and his second wife, Rhoda EDWARDS RHODES. I've sent the bios for Dudley HUMPHREY, and his son, Dudley HUMPHREY II, to the list sometime ago. Enjoy, Jim SHREVE Sr.

Morning all, For your perusal, by request, is all the FAY entires from the Census Index up to the year 1870. I will get the 1880 census index posted when I have the free time to type it all in. NOTE, as of right now, only the censuses up to and including the year 1880 is indexed. To look up entries after that time I'd have to go into city directories to get an actual address, then crosscheck that with the schedule. In the coming days I will post the actual entries from the Ohio census which I happen to have. If you want me to check out various entries, send the request privately to me. I have access to most, but not all, of these on microfilm. NOTE:This is the format it will follow. It will follow this format because email proggies have a tendency to butcher the lines incorrectly. The list is sorted by counties first, followed by name then year. Thanx to Ancestry for saving my carpal tunnel from actually typing all this in. <A HREF="http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/about/content/committees/gene4_stan.html">Cl ick here: About NGS: Standards and Guidelines</A> I would like to share with my fellow FAYS a gentle reminder to be respectful of the other guy. We folks that are hooked on genealogy can sometimes forget that others don't share our enthusiasm, hard as that is to believe ;) Sometimes, events come along in life that rock our world in ways we wouldn't ever be able to predict. After 25 years of freely sharing genealogical information we found ourselves being stalked by a crazy man. While we had not posted our children's genealogical information online, a distant cousin of my husband's did. Without consulting us first. Our stalker has died and we are cautiously relaxing, but see what kind of things can happen? Please, strictly abide to the current standard of not posting information for any event more recent than 1920. If you are thinking of it-be certain to obtain written approval from the person concerned first. In our research we use a permission slip. If folks don't wish to give permission we simply thank them anyway, and tell them we understand. Believe me-we do! Thanks for giving time to my two-cents worth. We sure do enjoy the FAY list and appreciate everyone's efforts. Holly Ricci-Canham 11

Contributed by Cathy Kubly ************************************************************************* FAY, Wooster Wooster FAY, of Lewis Township, is a native of Franklin County, Vermont, born 18 November 1819, the son of Jonathan and Ruth (ELSWORTH) FAY. The parents were natives of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and of Scotch and English origin. They had three children: Addison, a resident of Bowling Green, Ohio; Wooster, our subject; and Hollis, deceased in 1868. Wooster FAY, our subject, was reared in his native state until he was 15 years of age, when his family removed to Wood County, Ohio. He was reared to farm life, and received his education in the common schools. When the family went to Wood County it was a new country, they being among the pioneers. They improved a farm which they entered from the Government, and here he lost his parents. He remained in Wood County 21 years, and in 1855 came west to Iowa. In the spring of 1856 he came to Pottawattamie County, and purchased a farm of 200 acres of partially improved land, in what is now Keg Creek Township. In the fall of 1856 he removed with his family to Pottawattamie County, where they commenced life again in a new county and for the second time became a pioneer. He remained in Keg Creek Township until April 1889, when he removed to his present home on Section 4, Lewis Township. He has a comfortable little home with three acres of land, and here he expects to spend his remaining days. He has labored hard in assisting in the development of Pottawattamie County, having improved 176 acres of prairie land, which he disposed of at various times, and has also purchased other land. The home farm is on Sections 20, 28, and 29, Keg Creek. This he improved and made his home until he removed to his present place. He dealt in stock principally, in connection with his farming, and the last 12 or 13 years he has taken special pride in the rearing of a better grade of stock, in the short horn class. Politically he is a Republican, and has represented his county as a member of the Board of Supervisors for six years, from 1874 to 1880. He represented his township in the state legislature for three terms and a half, and in all of his political career he has never asked a man to vote for him. Mr. FAY was married in Wood County, Ohio, 09 November 1846 to Charlotte M. McMILLAN, who was born in Seneca County, Ohio, 10 March 1826. She was the daughter of Morrison and Clarissa (BROWN) McMILLAN, natives of New York and Canada, and of Scotch origin. Mr. and Mrs. FAY have four children: Emma, born 15 Oct 1847, is the wife of Samuel H. HOPKINS, residing in Macedonia, Pottawattamie County, Iowa; Morrison M., a resident of Franklin County, Nebraska, born 27 August 1849; Jane, born 10 July 1851, wife of Logan REYNOLDS; Isoletta, born 08 June 1866, wife of James PERSHELLl, residing in Lincoln County, Washington. The family are among the most worthy and respected citizens of the county, and have, by their honesty and integrity, won a large circle of friends. >From the 1891 Biographical History of Pottawattamie County Iowa - Lewis Publishing Company - - - ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

You can post your message if you send it in plain text; turn off the ``Post in HTML'' or ``Enriched Text'' features of your mail reader, or don't use any attachments. See http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm for instructions on turning off HTML in most of the popular mail programs, or ask your ISP's technical support line for help. We've had to institute this policy because of the problems that accompany these fancy mail formats. Some people don't have mail programs that are capable of processing the special file formats. Even among those who do, different mail programs handle these special formats in very different and confusing ways. HTML messages pose special problems to our digested mailing lists. Most of all, HTML-ified mail and attachments place a considerable burden on RootsWeb's overworked machines. All in all, mail in this format produces a lot of problems for RootsWeb's servers and subscribers, so we find it's best just to use plain text. -- The RootsWeb staff ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
I found some bios on various FAYS and will post them as I have time - hopefully they will help someone.......... Laura Greene FAYS REFERENCED IN THIS BIO: G. Hamilton Fay; Elon Galusha Fay; Eli Fay; F. E. Fay FROM: "California & Californians", edited by Rockwell D. Hunt, A.M., Ph.D. Volume III, published by the Lewis Publishing Company, 1930. G. HAMILTON FAY, engaged in the laundry business, represents a continuation of a business service with which the Fay family has been identified in Los Angeles for over forty years, Mr. Fay's grandfather having been one of the pioneer laundrymen of the city. G. Hamilton Fay, who was brought to California when nine years of age, was born at Bryan, Ohio, June 19, 1881, son of F. E. and Laura (Hamilton) Fay, and grandson of Elon Galusha Fay. G. Hamilton Fay's great-uncle, Rev. Eli Fay, a brief sketch of whom is published preceding, came to California in 1886 and was prominent as a Unitarian minister and at one time owned the corner at Fifth and Broadway, where the Fifth Street Department Store now stands. Elon Galusha Fay was born in New York State, December 13, 1824. His home was in Los Angeles from 1888 until his death on October 6, 1909. He was eighty five years old when he died. After coming to Los Angeles he engaged in the laundry business and operated the old Empire Laundry, which has since been succeeded by the Home Service Company of Los Angeles. F. E. Fay became owner of some large properties in the San Juaquin Valley and managed these from his home in Los Angeles. He was retired when he died, February 12, 1922. He was also born near Bryan, Ohio. His wife, Laura Hamilton Fay, who was prominent in social and charitable work at Los Angeles, died September 28, 1919. She was born in 1853 at Mount Pleasant, Ohio, and had lived in Los Angeles since 1890. She was a charter member of the Friday Morning Club, a member of the Ruskin Art Club, and the Galpin Shakespeare Club, the Humane Society, and was member of the Board of Directors of the Maternity Cottage. She and her husband had two sons and two daughters, all of whom were born at Bryan, Ohio: Mrs. Ira A. Campbell, of New York City, G. Hamilton, Cynthia Fay Clarke and Eli P. Fay, all of Los Angeles. G. Hamilton Fay was liberally educated, attending the grammar schools and high school of Los Angeles, and was a student at the University of Michigan. After leaving school he engaged in the laundry business, learning it from all angles, and was with the Empire Laundry, later with the Home Service Company, and in 1926 sold his interest in the latter corporation. On January 1, 1927, he established the Fay Company Laundry located at 1663-1671 Cordover Street. He was sole owner, and established it as a business with a special mission, handling family laundry work, and both rough and finished work at pound rates, new departure in this business. This company he sold to the Community Laundry Service in September, 1928. Mr. Fay was placed in the managership of the Bay City Laundry at Venice, which laundry is owned by the Community Laundry Service. Mr. Fay is an independent voter and for a number of years was a University Club of Los Angeles. He married, December 19, 1908, Miss Olive Garver, of Bryan, Ohio, where she was born and acquired her early schooling. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. M. V. Garver, the latter now deceased. Her father, now retired, was a manufacturer of wheelbarrows in Bryan, Ohio, and later cashier of a bank in that city. Mrs. Fay after the Bryan schools attended Miss Smead's School for Girls at Toledo, the Wells Preparatory School at Ithaca, New York, and also the National Park Seminary at Washington, D. C. She is a member of the Friday Morning Club of Los Angeles.
I found some bios on various FAYS and will post them as I have time - hopefully they will help someone.......... Laura Greene FROM: "California & Californians", edited by Rockwell D. Hunt, A.M., Ph.D. Volume III, published by the Lewis Publishing Company, 1930. REV. ELI FAY, D. D., was a minister of the Gospel whose zeal, labors and high character made him widely known over America and England. Doctor Fay spent his later years in Southern California, and was a greatly beloved preacher and citizen of Los Angeles and Pasadena. lie founded and built the old Unitarian Church at Seventh and Broadway at Los Angeles. He was born in Orleans County, New York, November 8, 1822, and died, at the age of seventy-seven, in Pasadena August 10, 1899. His home had been in California since 1886. He was one of a large family of fourteen children. His parents were poor and hard working people, and Eli had to make his own living from the age of eleven. He educated himself, and after entering the ministry he lived for some years in New York City, being identified with what was then called the Christian denomination, a liberal church. During the following eighteen years he preached in various Unitarian churches in and around Boston. From there he went abroad to England and for seven years held a pulpit in Sheffield. In 1882, on account of the failing health of himself and wife, he returned to the United States and in 1886 settled in Southern California. At one time he owned the corner of Fifth and Broadway, where the Fifth Street Store now stands, and also owned the corner of Seventh and Broadway, where he built the Unitarian Church, which in later years was burned, and the site is now occupied by the Loew State Building. He also preached in the old Opera House at First and Main streets. His home was in Pasadena, and there was no more familiar, beloved figure in the community than Doctor Fay. He was a man of the people, and his life was consecrated to their welfare. Even in advanced years his interest in the affairs of Pasadena never waned. He retained his membership in the Unitarian Church at Los Angeles, and until the retirement of Doctor Thomson, a year or so before his death, he attended with much regularity and was a power in church councils. Doctor Fay was three times married. He was survived by his last wife, whose maiden name was Harriet Kelsey. He had no children. He was great-uncle of G. Hamilton Fay, a prominent Los Angeles business man, president and general manager of the Fay Laundry. Doctor Fay was deeply interested in educational progress, and among other institutions which benefited from his efforts was Antioch College of Ohio.
