    1. [FAY] FAY, Apollos OPF # 977
    2. Mary J. (Fay) Nelson
    3. Dear Jim, I think that your four variant spelling for Apollos Fay are for the same person. The variants were Apollas Fay (1840); Apolos (1830) and Apolus (1850) and Appollos Fay (1860). This person lived in Bronson Township in Huron County, Oh. OPF gives the name as Apollos Fay (a fifth variant spelling). This Apollos Fay is OPF #977 on OPF, 1898: p. 85-86) He is known to have died in Norwalk, OH March 21. 1859. He married Lucy Hussington. Sincerely, Mary (FAY) Nelson 9

    1. [FAY] New The Fay Message Board Post
    2. FAY LIST
    3. Good afternoon again Fay mail list subscribers, Some months ago I had mentioned that the Fay message boards had been gatewayed to post directly to the Fay mail list. The following is the first example of a message coming from the boards. Also, if anyone or a group would be willing to administer the Fay message boards (there are 5 or 6) please drop me a line at madgrad77@hotmail.com. I have too many irons in the fire and just don't have the time. There is a mail list just for message board administrators so there is plenty of help available. Like many other surname groups we need to integrate the message boards into the website and mail list, as a group of integrated internet resources. This isn't as hard as it sounds, but it takes time, perserverence and commitment. Yet to come from rootsweb are the resources to put up gedcoms. Another big project. 1. [FAY] Vermont Fay Webpages
    2. Robert W. Fay
    3. Good afternoon again everyone, Hopefully everyone knows that we have a Fay family website by now, and it is getting bigger and better by the day. It's somewhat of a learning process on figuring out how to best utilize the internet resources rootsweb makes available to us. Many people have contributed enormously to this website, though various ongoing projects, and I hope everyone enjoys and appreciates the effort these individuals put into these projects which often stretch for months, and they never really are finnished. They just keep growing as others contribute material. A relatively new one concerns the Fays of Bennington Vermont, which has interest not only from a perspective of family history, but also to the role these individuals played in the American Revolution, along with Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys, and their role in the formation of the American government through efforts on the Declaration of Independence and other documents of historic importance. As a bit of the learning curve we have added a message board to these pages for everyone interested in this group. Please leave a message if you visit these fascinating webpages which start at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~faywebsite/bennington.html Bob Fay ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

    1. [FAY] Anna du Fay / Hanau - Germany, b. 1637
    2. FAY LIST
    3. Good afternoon everyone, I'm posting a letter from Hans Jurgen to the Fay list. For unknown reasons the computer don't think Hans is a subscriber, but I have added him again. Hans is in Germany, and is researching there. Apparently in Germany the Fay's name is also spelled Fey, Vay, and Vey. I don't know why. Hope this is of help for everyone interested in the German Fay's ************************************************************************* Hello everyone, hi Bob! You might remember my huegenaut idea for the name "Fey" a few month ago. Now I have informations about a woman called Anna "du Fay"! She is mentioned in a book about the oldest families of the hessian city of "Hanau" here in Germany she was born in the year 1637 in Basel, today Switzerland, and was a daughter of Jacob du Fay and Maria de Famars. She was married two times, first with Jakob Balte (February 6th, 1667), who died before 1674. On on February 16th in 1674 she married th second time, her husband was Jaques Cregut, a prayer with huegenaut religion. I think herself must also be huegenaut religion! And I have heard, that in the years after the 30-years-war, many people from Switzerland and other countries have settled in areas of hessia. Because the aborigines were killed and the land was wasted. For the one who can speak german, I put the original Message posted to me, at the end of this posting. My English is not so good, may bee you can use the original text better! <message/> Greetings from Germany ... Hans-Juergen Fey PS: Please let me make a short question to Bob Fay! What about the Fey-List, I havenŽt got any news since a long time from this list. Can you inform me, if I am still under the subscribbers of this list? Thank you! :-) ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

    1. [FAY] Levi Fay
    2. Margaret Pincock
    3. Dear Mary : I haven't posted my family line for quite a while. Levi Fay is my GGGrandfather, according to the 1850 Iowa Census he was listed head of the household, and gave his place of birth as Penn. he was born 1824. I have the marriage record of Levi Fay and Sarah Ann Merrill , married in 1848 in Vevay, Switzerland Co. Ind. I have information that his Father was Joseph Fay born about 1780/90 this is where I have hit a dead-end, no information about where Josepph was from. No I don't live near Penn. I live way west in Arizona so as you can see I have to do all my research by long-distance. I do have access to the LDS Family History Library but for some reason we can't find a record of Joseph (wife Martha?) so I am having to rely on census records ect. I appreciate your interest and help. Margaret Pincock

    2. Barb & Kawerb....... I, too, am looking for a Patrick Fay. All I know of him is that he was in the Cumberland, MD area in 1846 and left there probably within the next year or so to go to the Falls Church, VA area. He was married to Ann Farrell who was a sister of my great grandmother Catherine Farrell Byrne. Pat

    3. Hi Everybody; I just spent the day at the Family History Library in Mesa, Az. No Luck in a way, I stand to be corrected on some of my info on Joseph Fay; I found him in Penn. in the 1830 census but then from there I lost him until I went to the Indianna 1840 census but I still didn't find info on his family, Thanks to you Jim I found the Geneology book you recommended at the Deseret Book Store in Mesa and have been brousing thru it since I got home, I think it is great and hope to use some of its suggestions in my research. Goodnight and Good luck in hunting. Margaret Pincock

    3. Dear Family and Friends: Please just keep posting data; post in whatever form is convenient for you. Thank you for all the wonderful contributions. Linda To Mary (FAY) Nelson: If you would look on the Fay Family website, you would find all of the data put up in the form you prefer. I do not have it ALL yet; it does take time to do, and I do not have more than 24 hours a day. But I am doing it, and, I think, doing it well. There are many things on the website that are good. Perhaps it is high time you looked, rather than asking for different format on the list. I myself am happy indeed to see people posting to the list: I can change the format to what I myself want. I just need the data. Linda Fay Kaufman

    1. [FAY] Format for Recording Census Index Book/Card Entries
    2. Mary J. (Fay) Nelson
    3. Dear Folks, Would you please record Census Index Book or Census Index Card entires horizontally rather than vertically: For Example: "FAY, Richard W. Chatham County, GA Savannah " or "FAY, RIchard W. / Chatham Co./ GA / Savannah" [In the later case the / line indicates line breaks. The horizontal stack take up considerably less space on the FAY-D list than putting the same information vertically: Please do NOT stack the material this way: "FAY RICHARD W. Chatham Co., GA Savannah" The vertical stack takes up 6 times or more space in the FAY-D. list in terms of printing it out on paper to work with it in my other programs. I really do appreciate all the good work that you are doing to get new material to all the rest of the FAY family. Please do not redo what was already in the FAY-D-Digest Vol. 00, No. 68. Just be a little more careful about future entries. Sincerely, Mary (FAY) Nelson 9

    2. Jim Shreve Sr.
    3. Morning, Thanx for the response. I've amassed a lot of info in my search for descendents of Benajah F FAY, going back about a year. In answer to some of your questions, I have access to all the state census up to 1840, I believe, where I do most of my research. I do not know, however, which states are indexed at the library. If Pennsylvania is indexed I can check the 1830 census for you. Same goes for other states. In regards to the lack of info on the census prior to 1850, I'm afraid that on the Federal Census, all they initially wanted was head of households, and numbers of persons in certain age groups and sexes. It wasn't until 1850 when they started asking for names of others living in a household. The more recent the census the more info they ask for. Case in point, on the 1880 Federal Census, they ask for birthplaces of parents as well. 1880 was also the year the Federal Census started asking for relationship to head of household. For Ohio, 1880 is the last year which is indexed. I cannot say whether various State Census asked for more info than the Federal Census did. The State of Ohio is one of the states that does not and did not do a State Census. I am sure there are others here who help explain more about the census, but I recommend "The Genealogists Companion & Sourcebook" by Emily Croom. It has a whole section just on the census, with the copies of the forms. I just picked up the book myself two days ago.. Hope that explains some, Jim SHREVE Sr. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margaret Pincock" <mpincock@casagrande.com> To: <FAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 16, 2000 10:16 PM Subject: [FAY] Census > Jim is doing such a great job reporting his serches on the census records, I wish he had access to the Penn 1830, Mo. 1820-50 > Iowa !850.
