FARRIS b: Abt. 1846 in GA ------------------------------------------------------ JAMES FARRIS SR: The list of children belonging to James Farris came from the 1850 census records found on Ancestry. I have NO other proof of the attachments, of wife or wives, or kinship of the children at this time. Listed as children until further evidence is found on the family. CENSUS: 1850 Clark Co, GA, Athens Dist., p. 21, hh#147 James Farris 44 M Factory Op. b. VA could r/w Rebecca Farris 30 F GA could r/w Nancy A. Farris 4 M GA I figure James was married before, as Rebecca would have been 12 when Nancy was born, or the dates are off enough to be OK for her to be the mother of all the children. I just don't know at this point. ------------------------------------------------------ JAMES FARRIS: I have several obits and info. on one Mrs. J. C. Farris who d. 1914 in Augusta. She would have been born ca 1833. Could this James have been her husband. If so, I have info. that gives children. obits of one Elizabeth Farris, wife of JC Farris coincide with the death date that I have for the Elizabeth who is proported to be the mother of Laura Elizabeth Farris Ingett, my proven g-grandmother m. John Inglett. However, my great- aunt Maggie Inglett O'Donnell thought that he grandfather's name was Howell??? Maybe JC was instead of Howell? ------------------------------------------------------ HOWELL FARRIS: Howell is 'possibly' my gg-grandfather. He married Elizabeth (possibly Parker) and I have found only one records for him prior to finding him with parents in 1850 Athen Ga. The only info. that I have to go on to tie my line to Howell Farris is a note in a Christmas card written by my father's Aunt Maggie Inglett O'Connell (Mrs. Dan) that she thinks her grandfather's name was Howell Farris. CENSUS: 1870 [Powelton?] Dist., Hancock Co., Ga. p. 7 [enumerated 7 June 1870] Farriss, Howell 30 M W Farm Laborer GA. E. 24 F W Keepng House GA Johnnie 7 M W GA Sallie 4 F W GA Benj. 3 M W GA Willie 1 M W GA. My great-grandmother was Laura E. Farris m. John Inglett. She was born in 1872 after this census. However, I cannot find the family again later to prove her attachment to Howell and Elizabeth Farriss. I know that Elizabeth Farriss, mother of Laura, was committed to the Milledgeville State Hospital and that according to records, she was divorced from her husband. But his name is not given. He seems to have been a black sheep in the family, as my grandmother's father stated that his wife's father was a 'no good drunk'. The records I have give no name for this "drunken father". Elizabeth Farris b. Abt. 1846, GA (census records above) d. June 27, 1914, Milledgeville, Baldwin Co, GA. [Central State Hospital Records, (copies of medical records), [Wendy M. Veal, Program Assistant, HIMD, Phone# (478) 445-5781, Email: [email protected]] I found it interesting that she was diagnosed as being insane due to family problems. PROOF that husband's and/or children can drive you crazy : ). They had no further info. on her, as to her burial or who they contacted upon her death. This death date coincides with obits for one Elizabeth Farris, given as wife of J. C. Farris that are found in the Augusta Chronicle Dec. 26, 27,and 28th. It just does not seem possible that they are one and the same, and age of death in the Obit is different by 13 years from my Elizabeth with Howell. This Elizabeth and J. C. Farris have children Mr. Frank Farris (420 Reynolds St) and Mr. Charles Farris and 5 daughters: Mrs. Lawrence A. Dorr; Mrs. Ida R. Smith; Mrs. W. W. Frye, Mrs. Paul Mustin (306 Broad St.), and Miss Josie Ferris. Grandchildren listed who served as Pallbearers were: Harvey Ferris; Wescott Ferris, Chalres Ferris; John Ferris; W. W. Frye, Jr. and Lawrence A. Dorr, Jr. HELP!!!!!! In working on this family, I believe I have found info. on Beverly Farris as follows: BEVERLY FARRIS: His name is impossible to read in the 1850 census records, but I found this family in the 1880 census: CENSUS: 1880 District 124, Richmond, Georgia, p. 575C [Source: FHL Film 1254164 National Archives Film T9-0164] Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Beverly FARRIS Self M M W 40 GA Occ: Painter Fa: GA Mo: GA Josephine FARRIS Wife F M W 38 GA Occ: Work In Cotton Factory Fa: GA Mo: GA Rebecca FARRIS Dau F S W 16 GA Occ: Work In Cotton Factory Fa: GA Mo: GA Aurena FARRIS Dau F S W 13 GA Occ: Work In Cotton Factory Fa: GA Mo: GA Anna FARRIS Dau F S W 10 GA Occ: Work In Cotton Factory Fa: GA Mo: GA Charlie FARRIS Son M S W 8 GA Occ: Work In Cotton Factory Fa: GA Mo: GA E. [Obit, Augusta Chronicle, 2 Oct, 1900, p. 8a c 3a] sent to me by <[email protected]>. Wife Makes Sad Discovery: Mr. Balel Ferris Found Dean in Bed Yesterday Moring about 7 o'clock. Mrs. Balal Farris, who resides at the corner of Marbury and Fenwick Sts. was found dead in bed yesterday morning. Coroner May was notified and an inquest was held at 10'oclock. [Address is in Augusta, Richmond co, GA.] Mrs. Josephine Farris being duly sworn said she was the wife of the deceased and that this morning he awoke her about 3 o'clock, by getting his breath very hard and that she raised his head as requested and gave him a drink of water. Laid his head back down, he quit breathing so hard, seemed to be asleep and deponent thought he was all right. Deponent went to sleep and when she awoke this morning about 7 o'clock found him dead in the bed. Dr. Chas P. Brightwell was duly sworn and said that after a careful examination of the body, he found that deceased came to his death from paralysis of the heart, due to a valvular lesion. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the above facts. Mr. Farris was a painter, 54 years old, and leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. [NOTE: His age at time of death given in obit does not match the age of the 1850 census with father, nor the 1880 census as head of HH. The fact of 4 children does match the 1880 census, as does his occupation] ------------------------------------------------------ Other names mentioned in a copy of the 1889 Augusta City Direc. that I have are: Ferris Charles H.
