I've been away from Farris-L for awhile, so a brief refresher course: I am Robbie Sue Farris Glover, a Missourian by way of Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Virginia. I have no doubt that I am descended from Ian Esom Faris, most likely through Elisha Faris, killed by Indians 1791. I would like more evidence that Elisha had a son named Champion, my ancestor. Champion first appears in Russell Co. VA in 1783 (when it was still a part of Washington Co.). The earliest Farrises in his immediate vicinity were Elisha, Isaac, Thomas Jr., Cager (Micajah?) and Moses. All but Elisha and Champion moved on to Kentucky. There were other Farrises on the east side of Clinch Mountain, but not mine. Champion left Russell Co. VA ca 1804 for Smith Co. TN where the following Farrises are found ca 1801-10: Hezekiah (documented as being from Lincoln Co. KY), Edward, Nimrod, James and Thomas (a likely son of Champion). Champion's son Davidson Farris went from Warren Co. TN to McNairy Co. TN by 1830; to Tishomingo Co, MS by 1837 and later the family lived across the state line in Colbert Co,. AL. until Davidson's grandson John Green (Jack) Farris, my great-grandfather, came to Missouri by way of Arkansas in the 1920's.
