    1. [FARRIS-L] Moses Farris descendants
    2. Burriss
    3. Hello to descendants of Moses Faries of York County, S.C. ~~~I received an e-mail from Judy Ware Brown of Texas. She is a descendant of Mary M. Faries and is trying to find out with whom Mary lived between her marriages to John O'Neal and William Ware. These are the families involved: Moses Faries was born before 1778 to Robert Faries and died July 11,1812, in Illinois. He married and had issue: - John B. Faries, born May 10, 1800, and died June 20, 1832. Married Jane Nichols. - Mary M. Faries, married, 1st, John O'Neal. Married, 2nd, William Ware, who died in 1855. - Robert Miller Faries, born July 15, 1804, and died March 23, 1883. - Moses Templeton Faries, born Oct. 30, 1806, and died Nov. 26, 1896. - Jane H. Faries, born May 19, 1809. Here is some of the info Judy provided:~~~ For 2 years I have been at a brick wall. ... I am trying to find info about my Wm. Ware/Weir born 1796 SC and his wife Mary M. Faries. He married Mary abt. 1832 in SC who was the young widow of John O'Neal. She had one son when she married Wm. Ware, John Faris O'Neal who married into the Wylie family. She had 10 more children with Wm. Ware before he died in 1855. I have a 1907 document that I will attach to this e-mail that states that Mary was the granddaughter of a Capt. Robert Faris. This is all I have on Mary except that I believe her name to be Margaret Mary or Mary Margaret but she could be the Mary Malsey Faris that I see all over the Web. Some trees at Rootsweb say that the sister of Moses Templeton Faris named Mary was born in 1812, others say 1809. My Mary was definitely born in 1809/10 per her answers on the 1850, 60 and 70 Census. The names of Whiteside, Robinson, Roddey, Ferguson, Faris, McFadden, O'Neal and more appear in Wm. Ware's probate records from 1855. He died without a Will in Chester County. ... ~~~She listed her Ware family Web site, <http://www.rootsweb.com/~arclevel/warefamily.htm>http://www.rootsweb.com/~arclevel/warefamily.htm . She also sent an article from the Rock Hill Chapter UDC which appears to have first been published in 1907. It states that Mary Fairis (sic) was the granddaughter of Capt. Robert Fairis, a Revolutionary soldier. The article tells of Mary's experiences during the Civil War and the fate of her sons. Judy and I determined that two of these sons served in the same unit as my ancestor, John Robert Faries, who would have been their cousin. Please e-mail me if you would like to see this article. It's a jpg and somewhat hard to read. She then sent the following:~~~ So you didn't already have the DAR article that I sent you? The article is an extract so for nearly a year now I have searched all over, tried inter-library loan, to no avail. Either the book was too old and they wouldn't loan or they would have Volume I and not Volume II. I just recently found it at the University of Alabama library and I e-mailed to ask if someone would copy it for me, I would pay, etc. Decided to send along the extract that I had hoping to get someone interested. Lucked out and the person who e-mailed back told me that the extract I had was exactly like it was printed in the book. So as far as I know, the UDC are the ones that cut the story down before printing in 1907. It says it was written by a granddaughter of Mrs. Ware but which one I have no idea. It says she was a member of the Rock Hill chapter so I am leaning towards it being an O'Neal granddaughter since I know for sure that son John O'Neal stayed in York, SC, but there are several children of Wm. and Mary that I do not know what happened to. I would love to find what granddaughter was the member of the Rock Hill UDC and pull her membership file. It would be wonderful to find the entire story that she wrote about Mary. I know that Mary and Wm. oldest son Thomas J. Ware moved to Bradley, AR. in the 1850's. He lived with the widow of Joseph Hagins (also a Chester family), Elizabeth (Dunlap) Hagins and her sons in AR. I don't know if there is a blood relation to Hagins or Dunlap or not. 1796Wm. is the one who died in 1855 SC, just as the John Hart research you mentioned indicated, per his probate records. I am not familiar with his research. Is it online? Mary (a widow in 1860) is shown living with 6 of her children in Chester County, SC on the 1860 Census. Mary moved with her son 1834Wm. H. Ware and his family to Bradley, Ar. in 1866 right after the War. Mary is shown on the 1870 AR Census with her youngest child Susan (aka Arabella Susan/Susan Arabella) living next door to 1834Wm. H and his wife Sarah Catherine (Wylie) and children. She states that both her parents are born in Ireland and she is age 61, she's born SC. Mary is again on the 1880 Bradley, AR. Census living with Susan, Mary is age 70, and states again that both her parents were born in Ireland, her in SC. Son Wm. H., Sarah and grown children with spouses moved to (where I am now) Texas in 1884, before August, as my grandfather was born here. Sure wishing for a 1890 Census. I am pretty sure that Mary is not buried here in Texas. I spent 4 days in those Arkansas trees and never did find her buried there either but more than likely, Arkansas is where she rests. That would put her death date between 1881 - 1884. 1834Wm. H. and wife Sarah buried a 7 year old son in 1867 Bradley, AR. and there is an unmarked grave next to his in Reeves Cemetery which "could" be Mary. From the article I sent you and from Census data, I know for sure that this is my Mary (Faris). Whether or not she's sister to Moses Templeton, I dunno. I will take others word for it but there is so much on the net that is not right. One tree had her death date of 1888 but how they know that? I sure wish they'd tell me. I've seen where some say her mother was Indian, her father died swimming a river. ~~~Then she sent the following request:~~~ I need to find out what family Mary lived with after her first husband John O'Neal died. What county too. Can you let me know where Moses and any other siblings were living in 1830 SC? ~~~One strange thing is that Mary at age 70 says both her parents were born in Ireland. That doesn't jibe with the info I have. Anyone want to chime in on this?~~~ Deb
