Farris Velmer L. Farris, 87, of Cobden, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2003, at the Carbondale Nursing and Rehab Center in Carbondale. She was born on Feb. 12, 1916, at Caneyville, Ky., the daughter of George and Mamie Smith Carroll. She was married to John W. Farris on March 15, 1933, at Grayson County, Ky. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1985. Mrs. Farris is survived by two daughters, Frances Schuring of Chandler, Ariz. And Gloria Kenoyer of Olympia, Wash.; three sons, Charles Farris of Lincoln, Johnny Farris of Sparta and Robert Farris of Rushville; two half-sisters, Myrtle Johnson and Chesley Wix both of Louisville, Ky.; 31 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Tony Farris; three brothers, James, Romie, and George Carroll and by a sister, Virginia Wix. Funeral services for Mrs. Farris will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2003, at Lutz & Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden with the Rev. Clifford Heil officiating. Interment will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery. Friends may call at Lutz & Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden after 9 a.m. until the funeral hour. Lutz & Rendleman Funeral Home of Cobden is in charge of arrangements.
