Many of you are familiar with the discussions about Alexander and Jennet Faires of Fort Mill, S.C. This Revolutionary War-era couple is buried in Old Unity Cemetery close to my parents' house. A few weeks ago, my father took my niece to see the gravestone, but they could not find it. So yesterday, Daddy and I tried again. The stone has been broken for some time, so the top portion - with Alexander's name - had been leaning against the still-standing bottom part. I found the bottom part right away, with Jennet's name barely decipherable. But the top portion was gone. Daddy and I walked the whole cemetery, which is small, in hopes of finding Alexander's part lying on the ground or against the stone cemetery wall. But no luck. This historic cemetery was badly damaged by Hurricane Hugo and has been vandalized numerous times in the past. I find it so sad that someone would make away with this small piece of history. On a happier note, please join me in welcoming a new Farris into the world: Donovan Patrick Farris, son of my cousin Kerry Lee Farris and his wife, Sharon Miller Farris. Donovan was born March 12 and has an older brother, Devan, and an older sister, Lauren. Deborah
