Farris, 82, a resident of Citrus Heights for the last 24 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, with his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of almost 62 years, Thelma Saunders Farris, at his side. After quarterbacking for the University of Wisconsin Badgers in 1939, '40 and '41, Tom was drafted by the Green Bay Packers. Before reporting to training camp, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served from 1942 to 1945, transporting supplies for the Army in the Pacific theatre during World War II. After the War, he was traded to the Chicago Bears. Tom played for the Bears in 1946 and 1947, and the following season for the Chicago Rockets of the American Football League. His post pro-football career included 30 years with A&P Tea Company, mostly in California and Arizona. In 1978, he joined Lambert Marketing Company in West Sacramento, where he worked until his retirement. A resident of Citrus Heights for 24 years, Tom enjoyed golf, travel and a! wonderful group of friends. He will be greatly missed. Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday from 3:30 to 7:30 PM at the EAST LAWN MORTUARY, 5757 Greenback Lane in Sacramento. Services are on Wednesday at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Flowers at Cherokee Memorial Park on Highway 99 at East Harney Lane, south of Lodi. Donations may be made to your local Alzheimer's Association.
