Sterling, died at St. Joseph Hospital on Sunday, December 29, 2002 at 5:30 a.m. from complications following surgery. He is survived by his wife, Marketta Blackburn Farris, and two sons, Christopher Boyd and Edgar Alexander Farris of Mt. Sterling. Mr. Farris was the son of Gertrude Allen Farris Perry of Belmont, North Carolina and the late Edgar Boyd Farris, Sr. He is survived by two brothers, Wayne Farris of Cramerton, North Carolina and Allen Farris of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sisters, Peggy Byrd of Kennesaw, Georgia and Joan Guillot of Columbia, South Carolina; his mother-in-law, Olga "Granny" Blackburn of Mount Sterling, Kentucky, and two -sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jeanette (and Mr. Don) Stansbury of Louisville, Kentucky and Mrs. Geneva (and Mr. Carl) Pullen of Lexington, Kentucky, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Mr. Farris was a Senior Claims Examiner at the US Department of Labor Mount Sterling, and was a member of the Carmargo Church of God. He was a member of the Mount Sterling Kiwanis Club, and for many years had served as chairman of the Youth Services Committee. He had been named Kiwanian of the year in both the Pikeville and Mount Sterling chapters of the club. Mr. Farris was a devoted husband, father, son, and son-in-law. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Herald and Stewart Home for Funerals, Mt. Sterling, with burial following at Macpelah Cemetery. Visitation will be held the evenings of December 30 and December 31 from 6-8:30 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Mount Sterling Kiwanis Club in care of Bud Lane for the purpose of establishing a scholarship fund in Mr. Farris' memory. Active pallbearers will be Andy Morrison, John Wenz, Charles Comer, Jimmy Adams, Bud Lane, Mike Martin, Ken Hardin, Greg Barnes, and F.M. Sponcil. Honorary pallbearers will be the Mount Sterling Kiwanis Club, US Black Lung Department employees of Mount Sterling, Jimmy Coffey, Allen Lemaster, Gary Orme, and Gary Humble.
